Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

Gainsboro Garage is a great spot for a tower...direct connection to the T

If they're trying to stuff all of that into the block that Matthews currently sits on, I have to assume they're going to downsize capacity of the rink to make it fit. Does Northeastern ever draw the close to 5,000 the current rink holds?
The Cabot/Barletta replacement building was to be built on the adjacent site of the Gainsborough St, Garage.

If as part of the Matthews demolition the University is able to excavate and bury an underground parking garage below a new athletic complex, then I imagine that would free up real estate where the current Gainesborough Garage is for further redevelopment of additional, modern athletic facility space. And IIRC, that is consistent with the planning from the 2013 NU Institutional Master Plan.
Northeastern has a surplus of parking and some is leased to the BPD.

Northeastern may have a surplus of parking, but the cultural facilities around Symphony do not (Jordan Hall, Symphony Hall, Huntington Theater). The surplus NEU parking is much further away.

There are other parking facilities near those institutions that would have parking available nights and weekends when events take place.

You mean the facilities that max out when all three venues have events at the same time?

And I know the T access there should be excellent, except the T is broken.

Northeastern's Columbus Garage is not that far away.

The T maybe broken but at least you can choose from the E GL or the OL or the Commuter Rail or one of the more frequent buses vs sitting in slow traffic trying to find a close enough parking spot that won't empty your bank account.

Pulling out the renders and elevations from the PNF:

I don't really know what this says about it, but the architecture to me reads as "newly built shopping mall in Asia"

I really hope the materials are high-end. Those renders look like the product of a Midjourney prompt.

The initial design of ISEC was a six story, L shaped building that looked like it wandered in from an office park in Framingham. A lot of changes will happen before construction begins.

It will take me a while to digest this plan but WOW! As with the 2013 plan, many of these buildings will not be built in the 10-year timeframe but if only a few are realized it will be an amazing campus. Hoping that the demo of Forsyth building is a priority. Awful building 50 years ago, awful building now.

I guess we have to get used to new campus area designations:

Pretty sure this is some type of brick, either with a metallic glaze or a glass translucent brick? I'm intrigued:

It says White Hall has been demolished? Haven't been over there in a while. Is that so? I know they closed it due to structural issues, but it would be news to me that they took it down.

The arena sections look interesting. Almost like a miniature version of the old Garden with the balconies along the sides. Also reminiscent of other college rinks like Vermont's, or Canadian Major Junior rinks like Peterborough's, where the majority of the seats are in the large end sections.

Kind of baffles me, though, that they would go for such an old school atmosphere on the inside while the outside looks like an off-brand Mac Mini.

@BeeLine or @vanshnookenraggen - maybe pull the arena stuff into a new thread like "Northeastern University Matthews Arena Replacement | 262 St. Botolph Street | Fenway"

Also, wow. Could not have been less respectful to a building with the legendary status of Matthews Arena (not to mention other arenas in that area of Boston like Mechanics Hall) than to propose replacing it with a lazy UFO. This sort of thing is fine for New Balance at Boston Landing, but not here.

Here's the vernacular. Use it.

I know Perkins & Will can at least try, because they did this in Savannah:
