A montage of photographs of what I always thought was the Polaroid Building. I guess it really was the B.B. Chemical Company.

We made the clock movement in the 1930's and recently repaired it. I was impressed with how the clock hands were standing up. They were made of stainless steel and seemed almost new.

The building was designed by Shepley Bulfinch and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

My firm Electric Time Company made the tower clock.

Love the BB Chemical typeface. Slightly more balanced on the building than Polaroid's.

I have always loved this building and the very International Style/Bauhaus feel that it has. Shepley and Gropius were great friends and his influence is dead-obvious.

Love the BB Chemical typeface. Slightly more balanced on the building than Polaroid's.

The BB Chemical lettering is cool - sort of art deco.

I think the Polaroid lettering was more in keeping with the 1950's/1960's era.

This is a larger version of the 1930's brochure.

And a recent photograph of the clock - the Roman numerals are interesting - they have a lot of depth to them - the numeral "IIII" is also incorrect. It's correct for a traditional Roman numeral - but incorrect for a clock.

If you are interested in why - check our out FAQs.
