Most mid size and smaller airports are dead around that time (8PM) when there are no more departures and the only passengers in the terminal are from the arriving RON aircraft for the morning push. The arrival activity picks up considerably between 10PM and midnight. There will be days in July and August where PWM will see up to 28 combined MAINLINE flights to the following destinations: American (CLT, PHL, DFW), Delta (ATL, DTW, MSP), United (IAD, EWR, ORD, DEN), JetBlue (JFK, LGA), Sun Country (MSP), Frontier (MCO, PHL, RDU), Southwest (BWI, MDW, BNA). I hope I didn't miss anything, the research is a little more involved that it used to be. :)

No skid marks. Don't ever see that. I used to do touch and go's in a Piper single engine on this runway, way, way back.

Nice of Paul to pass that along to us! I'm eagerly awaiting seeing what the new lighting looks like from Western Ave.

Paul Bradbury is a class act and was instrumental in the major expansion that was completed in 2011 and continues to implement improvements to keep PWM competitive in order to attract new service and routes.
Very well said!!! He has done extraordinary things for the City and the Jetport and will keep doing so!!

A few historical photos of PWM to show how far we've come from the original terminal and I'm guessing around 1965 for these two. Current terminal opened in 1968 and has been expanded multiple times over the years.

I love the old house and elm trees in the background of that first pic.

Yellowbirds! Here's a blast from the past: that concrete porch had "Kiddie Stands" we could stand on to watch the planes! They were little platforms that were a couple steps up from the floor and gave us a little elevation over the adults walking across the tarmac. Oh, for the days when anyone could walk onto the air side of the terminal because planes ae cool.

I know when they opened the current tower they auctioned off the glass enclosure from the old one. I wonder what happened to it.

I should add: my grandparents lived for many years on Fenway St., in the Congress Terrace (Hobart St.) neighborhood, directly across the river from the Jetport. I can only imagine what the noise must have been like there while the main runway was out of use with modern jets (it was pretty loud back in the days of NorthEast Airlines).

As much as we revel in the idiosyncrasy of having a "jetport" I've appended "(PWM Airport)" to the thread title to make it easier to find. Among major airports PWM traditionally had two rivals in the "mainline airport with quirky name" But once CMH was been renamed in 2016 from "Port Columbus International" to "John Glenn Columbus International" I think we're down to Jetport vs "Sky Harbor" (PHX's airport)

^ Thanks for fine tuning the thread title. Actually, it would be better if you would change it again on the side of accuracy to Portland International Jetport | PWM. And we all know that we currently do not have any international flights other than occasional charters but it is still the proper name and looks a little more impressive! :)

Not as great as the Sky Harbor but don’t forget ABQ- the Albuquerque International Sunport.

Midland International Air and Space Port (MAF) in Texas has a futuristic theme going on!
