Portland International Jetport | PWM

I took that photo around 5 years ago right after the renovations were completed as evidenced by Jon Jennings as the Mayor. It has not changed any and this is where TC would like to see a complete makeover but we've lost him on this matter so I will address it the next time I see Mr Bradbury.

Perhaps take back some ownership of the Jetport. If it is truly the gateway to vacationland, Clear Channel should not be in a position to impede on this idea with an ad over the city's welcome symbol. Generating a small amount of easy revenue on this wall is not an excuse. It's only one wall, and in one way perhaps the most important. It indicates or implies that the Jetport doesn't care--that it's for sale. The Jetport is a public owned and sanctioned entity, for the public's benefit. Surely Bradbury understands this, deeply. He's good in interviews and seems sincere. There are many ways to make additional revenue. It's why I keep mentioning food and drink options. And the Shipyard location at baggage claim should be removed. Who wants to hang out at a bar at baggage claim? The idea is to grab your bag and get the heck out, fast, not sit at a bar (and is it even open any more, or after the 2011 expansion?). Logan has Starbucks at some of its baggage claim areas. That works. Sip a latte while watching the carousel go around. Or maybe a true Maine-made coffee idea, like Tandem (though the couple owners are originally from Brooklyn). They could have Maine imagery on the walls and a section with practical, quality made gifts for passengers too. I like their bike logo theme. Make it all fun. You know, the "Exit to the gift shop" thing that every freakin' museum has. But no typical airport gift shop junk. I'm so tired of seeing crap quality in airports. It implies the city is crap too. Nashville is fun with its spacious Jack Daniels store. And they do have their own "Goo Goo Cluster" candy bar (yum). And please, please don't give us the banal Maine whoopie pie--it's kind of lame. Be more creative. I use many different airports around the country, like some of us in this blog do, and nearly all airports understand the first impression it makes with a visitor. At Charlotte, you get a big "greeting" from the mayor of Charlotte. It's nice to hear and see. And please never, never use that horrid "Maine, the way life should be" quote/slogan. It's arrogant. Why is Maine better? Maybe it is, but don't brag. We don't need to, that's why. Fix this gateway to Maine problem. I could. It's what I do for a living and the end result would be more fun and increased revenue. Ask me for a consultation. I'll give you a 50% "friends and family" discount (y)

I don't think that Shipyard has been open in years. Personally, I thought of it as a place to wait for whomever you're picking up. Park in the garage, grab a beer, force your friend to watch you finish it when they want to get moving.

An amatos, Otto, or even Aroma Joes would be unreal in that space and only take half of the existing space up, leaving room for the planned baggage claim expansions.
Imagine an online ordering system where you submit which flight you are arriving in on before taking off. When you arrive at PWM and get down the escalator you have a fresh Otto pizza, Amatos sub or Aroma Joes coffee waiting for you. Talk about a first impression!

A few photos on a beautiful spring day. For those curious, the portion of the new addition where the high lift is will be clad in the same dark gray exterior material as the main part of the terminal on the left. The portion that is blue will have the same "off white" concrete and black glass treatment as the rest of the concourse so the new addition won't look like tacky add on.

Nashville started earlier than it did last year, no? Easter Day startup today with Southwest.

Rumor floating that Breeze will be cutting PSM. They haven't been doing well there at all. BTS data shows them with load factors around 50%.

PSM-RSW: 47.39%
PSM-MCO: 51.55%

Breeze cutting PSM would be beneficial for PWM especially as they add more capacity to MCO and RSW.
