How visible will this be from various points of Cambridge and from across the river? I forget how tall it is but isn't it going to be significantly taller than surrounding buildings?

And Czervik, I'm with ya - I'm surprised at how little discussion there is about this one on her but I think this thing is going to get a lot more attention on here pretty soon. Its amazing to see it go up on such a weird little parcel. Thx to folks keeping tabs on this one.

I mentioned before but to me what I like about it is it seems like your run of the mill Boston white precast tower, except the proportions and the way they used the materials looks really good. Goes to show its not all about the materials but how you use them.

The globular thingy is a radome for long-range weather radar. There is also a standard weather station on the pylon. The Green Building, Bldg. 54, houses the Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences at MIT.

It looks like it is blocking some of the windows on the adjacent brick building. Aren't the tenants going to be a little pissed about that?

Both the existing building and the new building are Boston Properties'.

The best way to avoid obstructionism is to own everything.

That said, if BP has any decency as a landlord , this window-blocking was discussed / coordinated / negotiated around long in advance of the groundbreaking

It is clear already that this will make a significant contribution to Ames St. It established a much better streetwall than before and creates some comforting enclosure.
