But if that person lives in Lexington (a town with twice the population of Bedford), if there's no Lexington Center station, from most of the town it will be faster to keep driving to Alewife than to drive the wrong way out to 128 and take the Red Line in. That's definitely the case for the street I grew up on, which is a 6-minute drive from the 128 station site per Google Maps.
At any rate, even if you got the necessary support in Lexington for a Red Line extension, both having it end in Lexington Center and not having a station in the Center are, I guarantee you, going to be absolute non-starters.

Any theoretical RLX pretty much has to end at 128 (or 2) for it to be realistic.

I can see a case for an Arlington Center or an Arlington Heights terminus. It's a very long gap from Arlington Heights to a theoretically viable next stop.

It would serve a comparable role to Wonderland, Forest Hills, or Oak Grove.
