Biked the Scarborough to Saco portion of the Eastern Trail earlier today and checked on the progress of the bridge spanning the Nonesuch River. It’s installed and being used! This is one of two bridges being built as part of the Close the Gap campaign to connect South Portland and Saco via 16 miles of off road trails. The second bridge appears to be nearing completion. The trail connecting the two bridges is of generous width. Great to see high quality bike and ped infrastructure being constructed in Maine!

More than 240,000 square feet of commercial space is under construction in the heart of The Downs and 70% is already leased or purchased.

I drove through the Downs a bit the other day while I was in the area and there is a ton of construction underway--excited for when this all finally opens!

Excited to see this intersections transformation in the next 5 or so years!

I'm still surprised they don't have a road named after Donnie Richards, since they have one for Freeman Parker.
(Yes, Richards was my favorite driver as a kid and I just found a story from last August where he recorded his 1000th win as a trainer at the age of 92, on top of over 4000 wins as a driver.)

Freeman Parker was one of my grandmother's favorites. I was a bit of a harness racing groupie as a kid....doing the fair circuit with my grandmother. Walter Case Jr., Doug Gray, etc. I can't believe those names are still in my head....lol.

I wasn't so much a groupie, but my grandfather used to take me with him to the Downs when he went (Cumberland and Lewiston too, and I even remember one time at Gorham when I was very small).

Maybe "groupie" was the wrong term to use for an 8 or 9 year old. My haunts were Central Maine fairs....Skowhegan, Windsor & Union. I remember collecting bags full of harness racing tickets that people threw away....such simple times back then. Another driver name.....Ruel Goodblood!
