Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

This is the first time I have noticed these modules. Looks a little upmarket for site offices. Does anyone know the function/use or what project it's associated with?

I was wondering as well, they have been there a few weeks now. People seem to be working in them

I happened to run across this pictorial about Fan Pier's entering into it's new age with the building of the Moakley Courthouse, finished in 1998. I included this here since many of the aerials show the whole of the Seaport before development. These aerials show the incredible transformation of the area (the aerial in pic 2 of the series taken in 1995 had me pondering for a few seconds just where the hell this area was)
The recent photos, posted by FitchburgLine, of the just opened Harbor Walk around the new Pier 4 condoos, stand in such beautiful contrast to what was there just a decade ago. The transformation of the Seaport is both stunning and wonderful!

The picture with World Trade Center West blows my mind. I worked at Foley Hoag in 2005 and my office was on the 15th floor (top floor is 17) and either the 3rd or 4th window from the left. I parked across the street for $8/day and later started walking when I moved to Beacon Hill. I had a pretty much unobstructed view of the city at that time and remember watching filming of a Departed scene that took place on one of the old warehouse rooftops. Going into the office on the weekend, I'd rarely see another soul between South Station and the office. It amazes me how much things have changed since then.

It all looks pretty good even if it's fairly uninspiring architecture and urban design. I can't help think that the early conceptual sketches of all these projects looked so much better than what eventually got constructed.

I'm holding out hope for East Boston. There seems to be a better approach to urban design and public waterfront access happening there, and I'm fairly impressed.

Looks like I wasn't at my desk when IMG_8677 was taken. Oh well.

What you are witnessing Ladies and Gentlemen is the birth of a new neighborhood

The Fan Pier end of the Seaport [Fan Pier and the completed parts of the adjacent development areas] is akin to the Back Bay about 140 - 150 years ago as the filling proceeded West from Copley Sq toward Kenmore
Come back in 5 years and the Seaport will be analogous to the Back Bay filled out to Exeter / Fairfield
Present-day Back Bay itself was filled by 1882; the project reached existing land at what is now Kenmore Square in 1890, and finished in the Fens[vague] in 1900

Note that the Harbor Walk is the Seaport's version of the Esplanade

Tim Logan's story says Foundation has a lease option at N, in addition to at L5 if Amazon doesn't pick up theirs (which expires next year). Also says they want to start on L3 or G by the end of next year

Big fail by BTD and whoever was responsible for the Summer Street revamp with the new bike lanes. For months, people have been complaining about the intersection of Melcher/Summer. Drivers come flying up Melcher to take a left, but at the same time, the pedestrians have the walk arrow. Working at this corner, we've seen several incidents of yelling at drivers, close calls etc. Fast forward 2 months, someone gets killed.

Yesterday, police shut down Melcher and the traffic engineers were out changing the signals.

Common sense doesn't work sometimes. The city should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. They knew about this issue and even responded on 311 saying "pedestrians have the right of way". If that's true, why did they change the signals the DAY AFTER someone was killed?

drivers in every city in the world can handle concurrent pedestrian maneuvers, but not here. Yet this is BTDs fault?
Nice of Walk Boston to bail on BTD here, but Walk Boston has always favored concurrent peds because there is less wait time. They have been pushing BTD for more concurrent peds all over the city for 20 years.
Only 1 entity to blame here, and its New England drivers. period. If you wanted action by the City, it should have been done through enforcement by BPD, not going back to an inferior signal timing.

It'll be nice when the seaport build out finishes, I think its crowding out demand for any office skyscrapers downtown except a few. Next up cycle should look different

Parcel G PLEEEEEEASSSEEEE! We need to fill in the street wall and end that ugly parking lot.
