Gov. Charlie Baker will tap Stephanie Pollack, a former transportation consultant now at Northeastern University, to be his new transportation secretary, the Herald has learned.

This is a very, very interesting move. And surprising. In a good way.

Oh c'mon. Baker ran as the second coming of Bill dive-in-the-Charles Weld and that's what we're getting. Heck, even Romney appointed Doug Foy (also a CLF bigwig) to his Cabinet.

Money is still an issue, so a re-prioritization has to happen first, probably involving trimming South Coast Rail back to Taunton, and mostly taking the $1b saved to make sure existing projects actually happen.

I like her too, though I think she's kind of loopy at times. She used to be a board member at a place where I worked, and she always struck me as one of those too academic for her own good, types. But I very much agree with a lot that she says on transportation and housing, especially the stuff about parking.

Perhaps this is Dantean -- she's condemned to her own circle of bureaucratic hell -- all these people promoting ideas and Congress closing the window -- unless the $T business tax amnesty on overseas $ comes along with an infrastructure fund

Well only time will tell if Charlie knows something about what might be proposed in DC
