Should Boston build a Casino?

Should a Casino be built at Suffolk Downs?

The majority of these locals in Everett, Chelsea, Revere, Somerville, Medford, Malden, Lynn, E.Boston are already the biggest gambling degenerates in the Country. Now lets put a Legalized Casino in E.Boston. Our hacks must really want to see these people living out on the streets.

Watch out, your Nanny State love is showing.

I invite anyone on this board who wishes to have a better understanding of the present-state traffic on arterial roads in East Boston and Revere to pay a visit to the corner of Boardman Street and the McClellan Highway on any weekday, during commuter hours.

Likewise, you could go down to Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods and watch the traffic patterns during those exact same times to see the likely impact casino traffic would cause. This isn't 2 times a day high volume like a new Fenway. It's a steady trickle (24 hr a day, God and Menino willing).

I'm with you........I think this is very bad idea for the taxpayers.

Overtime the infrastructure needs to be upgraded but to pay for some billionaire to reap more billions for a casino is not my cup of tea.

No, I think you're missing my point. The way to not spend a billion dollars on roads is easy. Just don't spend a billion dollars on roads, and don't advocate for it either.

Don't make assumptions like "we need to widen all the roads to handle extra traffic." Instead, break those assumptions. Say things like "we will never widen the roads, ever again -- not for the casino, and not for anything else either."

Problem solved.

Have there been renderings put out for this proposal? In all seriousness, to reach the investment threshold they will have to put in a sizable hotel. Where will it go on that parcel? It is constrained on all sides. Presumably on one of the parking lots. The rooms would look out over oil tanks or stables. Awesome. Also looks like it would be right under a flight path. How high could they build?
