I was pondering this too, especially because the two trees aren't even symmetrical with the building. My best theory is that it's to do with underground infrastructure for Arlington station closer to the intersection, as a general rule you can't plant a tree on top of any utility and the MBTA also prefers no trees over tunnels where possible.I was there myself today. And surprised to see that looooong streetfront on Boylston - yet only 2 trees. How the heck do they get away with that?
