So cool to see the Couture u/c. I love the Miami vibe of the design. This project has been in the works in some form since I lived there in 2008.

Somebody is proposing 1750' for Oklahoma City. It's as ridiculous as it sounds.

It wouldn't even make sense in NYC. With the barren landscape of OKC, it might as well get built on a farm in Central Vermont.

Detroit's Hudson Tower is coming along nicely. It's approximately 685' so will be right on par with Millennium Tower, Winthrop Square Tower, and South Station Tower. I'm super jealous of the taller old buildings they have over there, but certainly not jealous of the city as a whole. I just wish we had a couple more huge and inspiring pre-war structures.

They just upped the height with a spire to 1907'. This is all just a marketing ploy right? How can a city with a total of two streetcar lines support a building this size? They will have to raize several acres around it for parking because the transist system is not built for this kind of density. I put my money on it being cut down significantly just before being constructed becasue of "market forces."

Detroit's street layout yields better to skyscraper canyons than Boston, IMO. Almost any building in Detroit of decent height and composition can have a major impact, whereas in Boston they more often than not blend into the existing fabric of the city.

“Some residents have never been happy with plans for 955 Sansome Street, starting with the preliminary seven-storyapplication in 2021 for the corner lot by Telegraph Hill in San Francisco. Three iterations have gone through the planning department since then, steadily growing each time to ten floors, then sixteen, and now 24 floors tall. The project application states that the proposal “aspires to restore and revitalize an underutilized site while providing much needed higher density housing for the city.”

Aralon Properties is the project developer.

In a public letter shared in August of 2021, Telegraph Hill Dwellers, a neighborhood organization, told the developer in a public letter, “we are concerned that your building, as proposed at 8 stories, is excessively high and massive.” By October 2021, the Waterfront Action Committee argued against the revised 120-foot proposal, saying that “a 40-foot building would still have space for a similar number of units.” In 2022, the planning department denied an appeal submitted by WAC. A third iteration surfaced for 102 units across 16 floors in September last year….”

Appeal Withdrawn For 40-Story Tower In Downtown Oakland

“Plans for a 40-story residential tower in Downtown Oakland are moving forward now that a neighboring business owner has dropped an appeal following an agreement with the city. The proposal would bring 381 units to what is currently a surface parking lot at 1431 Franklin Street in the heart of the urban core. Tidewater Capital is the project developer….”

Most Renaissance Center Towers Could Be Demolished

General-Motors-GM-Global-Headquarters-Renaissance-Center-Press-Photos-001-720x511.jpg

”The landmark Renaissance Center that has served as GM headquarters since 1996 could be headed for an appointment with the wrecking ball (or its modern equivalents) according to the latest information from people close to the current discussions.

One or possibly two of the seven towers might be spared for the sake of Detroit’s “skyline,” with the remainder leveled and possibly replaced with new construction, the Detroit Free Press reports…..”

-I had wondered if maybe they were going to demolish the massive concrete podium that the towers sit on and open up the area. They could clad the newly exposed bottom few floors of the buildings in glass and build a plaza where the podium was. I guess that since they plan to keep a couple of the towers standing theyll have to do some version of this anyways with the towers that are left.

Just found this thread! A few photos from our trip to Santiago last year. Really great city that feels quite massive. Unfortunately the air quality was pretty poor a lot of the time. We spent a little less than a week there and enjoyed it!

Thank you for sharing @#bancars ; coincidentally, I visited Santiago for the first time a few years ago and posted my own photo spread on the first page of this thread, here:

Interesting to compare our views and photographic perspectives. I too was impressed with the city, its architecture, and general enjoyability

New tallest proposal for Milwaukee, 613'. Design looks great but it's supposed to be mass timber. They already have the world's tallest mass timber building in Milwaukee at 284' and this more than doubles that. I'm not sold on this construction method and would like to see this built with more traditional skyscraper materials.

Checking out San Fran for the first time. It just seemed like a big downtown with a lot of neighborhoods, all connected by street cars and busses. Went on forever. Fantrastic place.
