Why even bother when this is the debris one has to swerve around to discuss anything tenuously related to topic. Is this really how it's going to be going forward: height, politics, or watch any attempt at topic other than height and politics get smacked with DDoS attack by shitposters?

Not to be that guy, but are we ever going to ban the extreme detractors who cannot follow forum posts/etiquette after multiple warnings?
 
I hate to agree but at a certain point I think it can become necessary to ban people who do not bother to contribute in a meaningful way the vast majority of the time and instead just derail threads. I don't think this should be done often but we have reached a point where people have made comments about not coming on here as often because of those few people and IMHO I think it is better to ban a couple members who don't contribute positively than to have people who do contribute positively be driven away.
 
Not that my opinion carries much weight, but as a long time lurker I feel 2 posters in particular make the forum a good deal worse, one with extremely grating condescension and another with a bizarre listicle-style tall building fetish.
 
^So Whigh and Odura. I think Odura has improved a bit recently.

How did the Open Thread become the latest tall building derail? That's...such an odd choice of place to stick that stuff. Even for the gnat-like attention spans who can't stick to the duplicate threads that were created on DaBB subforum mere weeks ago for gnat-like attention spans spawning other duplicate tall building threads.

I keep waiting for the "What Are You Listening To Now?" thread to get bumped with somebody's latest dump of SketchUp creations.

Maybe I am misconstrued but I was under the impression the Open Thread was just that, an "Open" thread meant for ideas/visions not pertaining to any planned or ongoing developments as well as general conversations unrelated to architecture or development. I offered a proposal for what kind of TOD I believe could/should be developed at Oak Grove (and other MBTA stations for that matter). My intention was to share that idea with others and spark interest in the concept on this board, not in any way in an ill mannered or attention seeking way. The point of my sketchup creation "dump" (not sure if 4 jpegs qualifies as a dump) was to simplify the explanation of the concept by visualization. Also, the Oak Grove proposal in no way is a tall building thing, the plan calls for one 200' tower, a few stumpier buildings and a large parking garage. It is a TOD thing.

Back to this. No its really not in good fun for a lot of people here. I'm tired of whigh, I'm tired of Ordunadia or whatever the hell his name is. I have banned them but then that only goes so far as they derail threads and I dont know whats going when people respond to them. I'm getting tired of stick and move posting a million times saying the same thing over and over again. I'm getting tired of DZH. Those guys mean well but its a broken record playing the same one hit over and over. The forum is seriously going down hill and it should be corrected..... I'll show myself the door

This. Most of the time when I open a thread, half it is hidden because of their spam.
 
I'm all for getting the ban hammer out and getting rid of members that are derailing conversations consistently and unapologetically.
 
Having lurked for years and have sparsely posted for the past year, the quality has gone down. Every discussion is the same. The building isn't tall enough! WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF ROOM!

The constant derailers have been told so many times to actually offer something besides their normal tangent. I think it is time to start warning and banning people who constantly detract. One on them (name starts with an O) has a history of detracting from online forums. Just google his user name and you quickly see how he was received in other communities because of his low quality comments (or look at his online dating profile - also interesting!).

F-line, I am pretty sure that this is the place to disuses the degradation of the forum . If not in this section, I do not know where else this fits.

Posting the same thing over and over what would that be? I mostly post new renders, sometimes make some for various threads, and then try to be the voice of reason over billions of complaints and height fetishes. If you can inform me what it is that I post over and over-other than trying to get people to calm down Id be interested to hear. When everybody complains, needs more height, and derails threads 24/7 if you have a consistent opinion your going to sound repetitive. When nothing is good enough for anyone and I try to get people to see the bigger picture I guess it can sound repetitive, but am I really at fault here for what the problem is in the first place. I dont mind wighlander, even though he constantly derails every thread, but the day Odurandia came to this forum it has been downhill since. Everything was pretty good overall until that point. Am I the bad guy for trying to be a voice of reason over mounds of bullshit? I wouldnt need to repeat the same counter arguments if the same people didnt keep starting them.
 
I agree the forum's discussions have degraded to the point the ban hammer may be necessary. Un-policed forums inevitably degrade.

I was a bit surprised to see Suffolk 83, whose posts I generally respect, sweep stick n move into the list of worst offenders. I'm sure I can go back and find some places where I've disagreed with stick n move, just like I can do with nearly every poster, Suffolk 83 presumably included. But I have not at all perceived stick n move to be one of the people regularly dragging us into a junior high school level of discourse.

This points up the inherent risk of the ban hammer: who wields it, and on what grounds? I know the most specific answer: the mods, they run the site. I'm speaking more broadly, as in "how do we collectively want the mods to wield their authority?" It's a drag to deal with it, but it's gotta be addressed.
 
Thank you. Im pretty sure he is confusing me with things other people post, which happens, were human. Someone was mad at DZH22 because of odurandia posting the same homemade render over and over. I can promise you if you look through my posts, wighlander and odu I am not.

Interesting that he continuously bashes and complains about NIMBYs in the city yet he lives in Millis, one of the most rural towns inside of 495.
