The New Office/Lab Thread

Banker & Tradesman has a scoop on Foundation Medicine looking for "up to one million SF" of lab/office space in Cambridge and Boston, and Steve Adams has strongly suggested that they'd end up in Blocks N and P at the southern end of Seaport Square.

Quoting my own post...

https://www.bisnow.com/boston/news/...t-amid-talks-of-big-life-science-campus-98107

With city approval on a 7.7M SF building plan, WS has several available blocks in its Seaport portfolio, depending on Foundation’s space requirements, which sources tell Bisnow include 300K to 400K SF of labs.

The Cambridge-based biotechnology company has reportedly considered building a 1M SF life science campus next to Amazon’s future Seaport Square office currently under construction.

Amazon is continuing its rapid growth in Greater Boston, this time with a tech office in a new part of the region.

The e-commerce giant has signed a lease for approximately 50,000 square feet at One Cabot Road in Medford, an office building off Rivers Edge Road near the MBTA’s Wellington Station on the Orange Line. The office, which will house about 200 staffers working mainly on Amazon’s Alexa voice-operated systems, is set to open later this spring.

Mass. makes its play for Hasbro HQ

The Baker administration is now making its own push to persuade the company to move its Monopoly money to Massachusetts. State economic development officials have made overtures to Hasbro before about the HQ, without much luck. But there’s a new undersecretary in charge of business development, Mark Fuller. And it appears that Fuller and his boss, economic secretary Mike Kennealy, want to make a more concerted effort.

Cambridge's bluebird bio expanding Kendall Square HQ

Bluebird plans to sublease 267,278 square feet at 50 Binney St.

Kind of wondering what's taking Hasbro so long to leave the Bucket. CVS would be the other one in RI I would try to lure.

Or why not just leave them in RI? New England is a regional economy, stealing Hasbro or CVS from RI is just a larger scale version of Boston trying to steal companies from Cambridge.

If RI's economy is healthy and thriving, that's good for MA. And right now they need those HQs much more than MA does.

Didn't CVS start in Massachusetts?

I would agree regarding New England having regional economy. I am willing to be lots of the CVS and Hasbro workers live in Massachusetts and those companies probably generate a decent number of airplane trips into/out of Logan among other economic benefits.

Getting a company from outside of New England to move into the Boston metro area would be more ideal. I am surprised Massachusetts hasn't tried to lure more CT companies into Mass. I know LEGO has their NA HQ in CT, that could be a good target.

CT is in New England.

Don't agree. And that's taking into account how extremely popular the South Atteboro CR stop is. Which by the way... if Hasbro wanted to be friendly to their employees in a move to Boston, Back Bay would be the place to go.

Hasbro apparently wants to own its HQ building. That aside, why would Hasbro, a mature company that worries about its bottom line, want to pay Back Bay Class A commercial office space rents for 1,500 employees, many of whom are back office employees? And why move to a city where the average wage is 30 percent higher than Providence?

This is a company that was hurt by the closure of Toys 'R Us.

Because they would eventually turn over staff to cheaper younger workers that would more than make up for the higher rents. Now if they do want to own the HQ building then Boston might not work.

True. And for that reason I was happy when CVS-owned Aetna decided to keep their HQ in Hartford. I want to see old New England cities do well.

Once we get into Fairfield County though all bets are off (ie. GE)--that corner of CT is squarely in NYC's regional economy, which is a direct competitor. Poach away!

Not sure where to put these, I think there was another thread but I can't find it. 99 & 110 High, new entrances:
