The New Retail Thread

A couple of possible retail highlights spotted on Reddit. The closed Whole Foods at St. Mary's may be a new H-Mart Brookline as well as the neighboring Japonaise may re-open after closing for covid. And more good news, new sidewalk re-build for a possible beer garden Boylston Station? This may be a tough spot for an outdoor dining venue with the number of panhandlers in the area.

Anyone have details on when the Harvard Bookstore Pru location is opening? They originally suggested “spring 2023,” but evolved it to “coming in 2023.”

Nice! This should bring some much needed activity to that corner of the Common. However, I wish they had fixed the concrete sidewalk better. It looks like a sloppy asphalt patchwork.

Larger Trader Joe's coming to Back Bay. 16,500 sf store will also be able to sell alcohol and close as late a 9 pm.

Bartaco has been approved for their Fenway location (100 Van Ness Ave) and will have a 2 am indoor closing time, 11 pm seasonal patio closing time. They bought their Liquor License from Hard Rock Cafe. The Fenway Civic Association had opposed the proposal citing concerns over noise and that people could get a drink on the patio without having to buy food.

Lots of activity on that corner if you like pigeons! One of the largest flocks in the entire city hangs out right there around the Boylston station exit.

Coming 2024, an F1 Arcade in the Seaport. Doesn't specify where exactly, but it is coming. This will be their first location in North America. Immersive simulators, a full bar and food.

Nah Wagamama is now Limani Grille, it just opened. It could be one of the ground floor commercial spaces in the BCG building (Tatte and Greco are there). The side facing Commonwealth Pier is completely unoccupied and has been since the building went up. There are some large storefronts there, too. I believe Grafitto is leasing that space.

Edit: looking at addresses on Google Maps I bet it’s in the Superette, the commercial space around Alyx and Echelon with the open courtyard. That would make more sense, there are some prime first and second floor venues there

Great, so now when I tell people I'm a racing fan, instead of asking me, "Do you watch Drive to Survive?" they'll ask, "Have you been to that F1 place in the Seaport?"

From the recent Volpe project presentation--recent openings and soon-to-open retail establishments in MIT properties in Kendall Square. I'm excited to see Ripple opening a location in Kendall--their Ashmont location is nice!
