The Sudbury (Bulfinch Crossing Residential Tower) | 50 Sudbury St | GCG Phase I | Gov't Center

Today is the day it made another jump. Move the green line up 1 floor (so halfway up that double-floor glassy section) and that's where we should be with this one. One more regular height floor before the ceiling heights increase dramatically.

^^^Thanks! Based on the highest view from the Hub's webcam, I strongly believe that the poured floors are currently up to the green line in the render below. Also, for another way to look at the scale, it's essentially the same height (and similar massing?) to Hartford's tallest building.

Is it cheating to look at one building's webcam to check out another building's progress?

Not any more than when developers of one building put airbrushed/better-than-reality versions of others' buildings in the background of their renders to make the whole scene look good :)

Ha! I do it daily. It'll be a sad day when they shut down the Hub on Causeway webcam, but hopefully the addition of the office tower will delay this.

This thing should top out right about where the bottom of the crane cab starts yea?

When I was looking across the harbor I was thinking how the shorter tower in front of this is going to help really create a cluster over here with mass and depth depth vs just the 2 towers. It should be similar in height to the shorter towers next door along with the longfellow towers from this perspective so it should create a nice continuity across the skyline with then the 2 new peaks above. The depth of the hub on causeway along with nst is already looking great vs before where there was only one tower. I think depth really is the key towards filling in this area along with the varied heights. Its looking great already though.

I tried to line up exactly with the render for easier comparison. I couldnt find the exact spot, but was able to get very close. Taken today:

^^^^ Great effort. If Meddlepal is correct about this topping out at the botom of the crane cab it will be a major change to the skyline. This complex will become the third focus of our skyline (Back Bay/ Downtown / West End}

This thing feels really tall as you walk around the area now.

How many units ? Never mind: 368 apts...55 condos.

It will be interesting to see how all these new units do on the market. I think lovejoy wharf still hasn’t sold out and there’s now a lot of competition for apts in the area.

The individual windows do wonders for making it feel taller. One's eye just sees a glass curtain as a endless plane with no sense of scale. The little windows really put things in perspective.

A friend at the State House says companies are paying so many low salaries to foreign workers, this was bound to happen. Much slower growth may already be here.

My husband and I make two good salaries, but I often wonder who can afford these apartments. The average rent for a 2-bedroom apartment in Boston is $3500. Just doing a quick search on the Avalon Apartments at North Station, the rent is way beyond our mortgage in Scituate and we bought our home for 1.1 Million in 2006. So, it's not exactly a crappy place. I realize it's not fair to compare complete Apples to Oranges here, but we wouldn't mind moving to a nice condominium in the city. We certainly aren't "downsizing" on price, so I don't see how we could ever do it?

Anyway.........just a useless rant, I guess. :D

You're not alone. I make near six figures before tax (just a tad above the median household income in Boston) and I can't even afford a 1 bedroom apartment in Boston. But I guess that's life in the city. Frankly, I'm looking to moving to LA; the average 1 bedroom there is more expensive than Boston but they have a greater range than they do here.
