Thompson's Point, Portland

Couldn’t be odder than the 25hrs hotel in Zurich. At least that one has a trainspotting suite since it’s located next to the main station.

Looks like residential, garage submitted. No attachments. No details on the hotel start date.

Way too much parking overall, but a nice design and it’s good to finally see housing at the Point!

The only way that much parking could be justified is if it's also going to serve the future phases on Lots 4 and 5 on their campus plan.

Thompsons Point is sitting on gold right now. Since their Master Development Plan was approved before Inclusionary Zoning, these are likely the only development sites in the city that don’t need to meet any kind of IZ requirement.

I recall that the original plan called for a garage where the graphic says "Interim Parking Lots 14-15"; that was going to be shared with the train station, and also used for the arena where the beer warehouse ("Light Industrial") is now.

I do wonder, what NNEPRA would be thinking now, if they had built a station down where the container port is now, as they had planned.

This is great. The Moxy is a fun chain, a little like Aloft and Citizen M.

Is the hotel at the Hub on Causeway a Citizen M? Because I noticed that they have a neat trick to not attract families with kids: all the rooms are 1 King.

I’ve actually stayed there twice in last month. Went with my 7th grader and we just shared the big bed . Love the hotel and it was only 129 including fees both times

I stayed at the Moxy in downtown Nashville TN. What an odd set up. Def for the kids who want to party and socialize.
had friends who stayed at the Moxy in Brooklyn. Makes sense for an audience that views a hotel room as a place to dump your stuff. But felt clean and modern.

If you are in NYC stay at the Citizen M in the Bowery District. Wow! Less than $200 a night and the rooftop lounge and outdoor area is not crowded, and the views are some of the best in Manhattan for rooftops. It's a secret place I'm guessing. If tourists knew that bar/rest and view was like that, it would be mobbed. Boston has another new Citizen M in addition to the one above TD Garden. It's a new modern-look complex near Fenway Park. Looks futuristic. The Boston arch bloggers love it because it doesn't feel like Boston. It sits on top of the Mass pike. More like Tokyo or Zurich, really.

And to speak about construction, it looks like this Moxy build is similar to the foundation scheme of the AC Marriott across from WEX. They didn't really dig down to place substantial footings, so I guess they are confident of the soil here. The best foundation porn I've ever seen is Hudson Yards in Manhattan. When they were building those first few high-rises, they went down about 50 feet and drove pilings into bedrock. Wow. There was continual blasting of rock to get down and down instead of munching through dirt, clay, etc. I've heard that the entire Manhattan skyline sits on bedrock. Not like San Fran. Google their Millenium Tower hi-rise. A 60-story building is now leaning, sinking and tilting, and they are spending maybe $200 million to shore it up so it doesn't get worse. Imagine having bought $5 mill condos in that place. How do you sell them? You don't.

Ummmm ... next to the children's museum.

I have to imagine the lion's share of people going to the Children's Museum are local and not traveling here to stay at a hotel and to go to the museum. Seems like a good fit when you consider the other tenants at Thompson's Point (e.g. concert series, Bissel Brothers, Brick South, Sacred Profane, etc.).

The hotel will be mostly used for hospitality for the concerts where the acts can hang out before the concert, plus with a roof top lounge will help. A big upgrade from the shipping containers used currently and the outhouse.

When I went through there the other day I noticed the plates of the cars at the museum came from far and wide. Many NY, MA, VT, PA plates.
