They're the city's first and third tallest buildings, with Kendall Common (1st new Volpe tower) set to eclipse AZ for third tallest. So basically they're increasing the height of the general plateau by about 25-30' and then shattering it with this building (and hopefully at least one of the residentials at Volpe). Once topped off Vega will ultimately be the 31st tallest building in the overall skyline.

For reference, the overall #'s 26-37. This should appear taller than 33 Arch since that one uses the spikes on top to reach its full height.

This recently became the only building poking above the opposing side of my alley-facing Back Bay office. I'll grab a photo when it goes a little higher.

I'd add another ten floors. They could fill those units easily with the exodus from New York now. Seriously though, is that realistic? I know they did it with the Maine Medical Center in Portland with their $350 million dollar build. It started to go up before Covid and the "clean room" idea (sterilization for surgical instruments, etc.) became a big priority so they added another floor to the top just for that function. I think it was another $35 million to do that.

What exodus are you talking about?

Yeah, people who are panicking over a 1% tax increase are going to rush headlong toward CAMBRIDGE MASSACHUSETTS.
Yeah, I agree that the tax situation isn’t better here even with the increases coming in NY

Stood at the base of this Friday night and it’s impressively tall! Never really thought the day would come to Kendall square.

Kendall has a lot of room to grow in both height and street level experience. Hope they can figure out both by loosening restrictions and ignoring selfish nimbys
