Boston City Hall Worker Charged With Dealing Drugs
A Boston City Hall employee faces decades in prison and over $1,000,000 in fines after being charged with distributing Oxycontin and marijuana, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced Thursday.
John Forbes, 31, of East Boston, was charged in federal court earlier today.
Forbes is employed by the City of Boston as a neighborhood coordinator for East Boston. He is charged with one count of distributing Oxycontin and one count of distributing marijuana.
Boston Mayor Tom Menino called Forbes' alleged behavior "completely unacceptable," and has placed him on unpaid administrative leave. "I believe public employees must be held to a higher standard of conduct and I am very saddened to learn of these allegations today, but any personal decisions made by Mr. Forbes should not be a reflection on the tremendous commitment and dedication the Office of Neighborhood Services has for improving the lives of people in our neighborhoods."
They mayor has scheduled a disciplinary hearing for next week that will discuss Forbes' possible termination.
According to Menino, police and the U.S. Attorney's Office have been investigating Forbes since July.
If convicted of the Oxycontin charge, Forbes faces up to 20 years in prison, three years probation and a $1,000,000 fine. If convicted of the marijuana charge, Forbes faces up to five years in prison, three years of probation and a $250,000 fine.
