Maybe an internal collapse?

Seems wild to install the full thing (with it clearly matching the same stone color/type as the rest of the entry) then decide to swap it out. That sort of design decision should've/would've been done earlier through physical or digital mockups.

My buddy is an iron worker who was working on this project, but whose work has been done for a while now. He may still have the inside scoop on these types of things; I’ll ask tonight

Confirmed that it had massive structural failure and had to be scrapped and re-done (little wishy washy on the “totally collapsed” language). It’s all second hand anyways, so take it as rumors from a guy on the internet.

Guess we’ll see if they rebuild it with sections that look the same but yeah I agree it would be bone headed to order, receive, install, and then swap out for a different color. If it failed spec I don’t think it gets put on the column.

The lead time on that kind of custom stone is insane. They’ll either wrap the column in a cheapo aluminum plate or stainless steel cylinder and call it a day or they’ll leave it nude for a few months while the stone is fabricated again.

Still really odd to me that Millenium, the folks paying a fortune to live in MT, and the city of Boston are all fine with that absurd, unfinished roof.
As someone who gets to stay at MT twice a year, I can tell you none of the residents (and me) care. Let's just say, the roof impacts exactly 0% of their lives. They care more about the fact that management is no longer providing cups for their complimentary morning coffee in the lounge than they do the roof.

Sure. Opinions differ. I’ve stayed at MT a few times and both I and my friends who live there fucking hate that the roof is incomplete and looks ridiculous from the South.

Something something bias.

You're a dude that hangs out on a niche architecture forum, of course it bothers you.

I don't really follow your point. You're a dude who hangs out here and it apparently doesn't bother you. So, back to my original point: opinions differ.

My take: the unfinished roof looks cheap and shitty.

You (and plenty others): it looks fine.

Fair enough.

It does look shitty. But absolutely no one who's not already on this board has ever thought about it, or maybe even noticed it. I'm guessing that's what he means.

Why don't we all agree both towers are unremarkable in massing and style, promised far more by way of building amenities/local improvements than was produced, and Boston will likely tap MP for another one due to our fine city's deep, deep-seated love of design that doesn't spook the horses?

Because I think both towers are remarkable and an awesome addition to the city. There’s no point continuing to argue over matters of taste.

I have questions:

1.) How do you define "Boston"--the Mayor Wu regime? A potential successor regime? The BPDA as presently constituted? The BPDA as it might be evolving?

2.) How do you define "tap"? Remember, the process in which they won the development sweepstakes for the Winthrop Sq. Garage parcel was intensely fought (5 other competing bids), very drawn-out, bitterly politicized, very dramatic, etc. Mayor Wu fought against it, notably, as a Councilor. Hundreds of opponents and proponents attended a City Council hearing on it. It required a change to preexisting zoning regulations, via a successful home-rule petition.

Do you have a City-owned parcel in mind in some neighborhood that seems as ripe for a similar development sweepstakes as which transpired with the Winthrop Sq. garage?

Just an anecdote, but. my wife who most certainly is not on this board (or cares in the least) routinely remarks on how ugly it looks when we drive downtown from Dot on 93.
