Yet Another Fucking Apple Store?

No it's a digital billboard. I think they actually used Mac default wallpaper on it. I don't think it's legal to do so in a public rendering like that. There isn't even a retail space beside a restaurant/bar in this development.

The Level 2 plans identify "Media Signage," so they want a digital display board on the corner kind of like Times Square. Additionally, the media signage has been tightened and reduced in scope only to the corner per this NPC on page 3, item 6.

Because 1 is too many?

Supposedly we are getting one in The Seaport and also in the TD Garden development. At least according to the renders which have Apple logo's as store frontage... someone said developers never do that unless it's a "done deal" because of the legal ramifications.

I said it in that Seaport Square thread (iirc) and as I iterated in my post here, there is no space for an Apple store in this development. It is purely billboard signage represented in an improper manner.

Newest NPC as of 3-5-15: http://www.bostonredevelopmentauthority.org/getattachment/e42a72ac-6f5d-477e-b5b7-ef6cc1814fda

1) Increase number of hotel rooms from 240 - 346

2) Add 4 floors, total 23 stories, 245' floor height, 273' screen height

Of course this has been in the works since 04' so...

It would be really nice to get this thing built. Kneeland is such a dingy and for the most part dead corridor, despite all the new buildings and the intermittent small commercial establishments. The replacement of 7-11 with Panera was a big loss (though it did help along the final blow to that corner's no longer needing the designation of what I grew up calling it, "crackhead corner"). It isn't clear from the images in that file what the ground level will look like, but I'd like to see a restaurant and small convenience store. That side of Kneeland in particular is dreary as all hell.

The ground level of this sliver will barely accommodate an elevator lobby. No retail is planned.

There is an ambiguous space marked "Entry" that is about 1000 SF on the ground floor plans. Something small by means of retail could theoretically fit there, but it's unclear. It might just be an oversized lounge area. There does not appear, at this stage, for retail to be planned on the ground floor.

Would be cool if this intersection became times squarish with this, a replacement of the MassDOT building diagonally across, the W hotel and whatever would replace the other corner all being lit up with signage as its near the theatre district similar to Picadilly Circus and Times Square

Re: Theater District Parcel P-7A | 240 Tremont Street | Downtown

Perhaps the BPD's thinking about opening an outpost there...

Globe announcement about this. I think we already knew all of this, but figured I'd post anyway. Might mean momentum is gaining. I have to ask though: Why does the city need more hotel rooms? If there's a simple answer I'd like to know.

Are you serious? The city is so strapped for hotel rooms that it isn't even funny. Prices often rival Times Square here due to demand during peak seasons. Occupancy is often near 100%. Organizations also consistently reject Boston as a spot for conventions because of lack of hotel inventory.

Re: Theater District Parcel P-7A | 240 Tremont Street | Downtown

Lack of supply, as I understand. Boston hotel costs are super expensive as a result.

EDIT: Ninja'd by data, who said it better.

There are two disturbing trends in this forum -- both exhibited in this thread:

  • 1. over time the percentage of replies to some post with vulgarity has soared -- not everything is F'ing good or bad
  • 2. increasing number of people failing to do even trivial levels of research before posting ignorant statements as questions -- its as if someone was discussing Rome and kept asking how come there are so many Catholic Churches?

Whighlander, I have to second your comments. The trends are disturbing (and annoying).

Oh please... Pot calling the kettle black here when it comes to annoying/disturbing trends.

People come here for different reasons, some come to share information, some seek answers, some seek dialogue with industry professionals and some seek all of the above. We function as a community, some with disabilities (at least a few people on here), others able-minded and help each other learn things.

Re: Theater District Parcel P-7A | 240 Tremont Street | Downtown

Which lander, your post might the least self aware posting in the history of the internet. Your bitching about something while doing what everybody else despises you for-derailing a thread with your bullshit.

This isn't a college paper here, you don't have to do any research to post. Second, who cares about swearing really

Funny, I was thinking just 20 minutes ago about writing a similar post to whighlander.

Does anyone track readership on this site? How does now compare to say, a year ago; five?
