Lapradetom -- offer Steve -- "Joey fully willing to talk: -- and you probably have a deal

Note: -- remember no visible damage --- so you might think about suggesting the "impact" of a wide flat rubber paddle on the bottom of the feet

Though personally I kind of like helping Joey to contemplate the image of the chair without a complete cane seat, a pit bull, some dog food and ... well it worked well in the Bond movie

^Gosh darn it, you're on to something whighlander.... we can start with the Wynn/Boston Harbor "just-for-you-Mr. Mayor, free-lifetime-buffet-pass-if-you-drop-your-complaints" talk..... If that doesn't work, we may have to up the ante, so to speak....Obviously, Mr. C forgets what can happen when Popeye's mad, then has a can of spinach.......and Popeye's on the payroll already, and heading east.

Mayor Curtatone is on Channel 5 (WCVB) 11:00am today/Sunday morning show (On The Record).

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Anything of interest?

^Not really, Curtatone just reiterated more of the same. The two show hosts did their best to back him into a corner with the prevailing argument that he has almost zero chance of changing anything, and he is just wasting over $1 million of taxpayer funds fighting Wynn endlessly. He says he's not fighting it because he is personally against casino gambling-which he is vehemently against. He just used his typical lawyer jargon to confuse everyone what his real motive is, which was something about "fighting for the health and safety for the health and well being for the children of Somerville", or something like that.(I personally think cleaning up a polluted Monsanto plant IS in the interest of health and safety)....Plus the traffic mitigation arguments, which the host says was already ironed out with Mayor Walsh, and other parties, of which he disagreed. He says he has no plans to drop his fight against Wynn.
He also brought up the Green line extension, or lack thereof, as is the case currently. I agree with him on that issue, it's a mess that the MBTA should figure out ASAP.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like it will just play out in the courts unless they just work out the deal that was on the table and call it a win

One thing I will say: Wynn Everett casino will be the highest grossing casino in the United States between the Asian community living in Malden and the amount of degenerates living in Everett.

Wynn hit a grand-slam.

^Grand-slam? Wouldn't jackpot be more accurate here? :)

What will be curious is how Everett, Chelsea, will evolve with a billion dollar Casino in the neighborhood.

Do these two specific areas become demoralized like most Casino developments. the poor and demoralized have to go somewhere.

Or does Boston continue to become unaffordable as it's going now.

Basically to start a family in Boston you have to be worth some serious loot for a somewhat normal life.

FACT; Traffic will be a BITCH when this built.

^^The whole "casino thing" in Mass. will be a short lived boon to the state, but like most casinos around the country, will probably fade into the background as time goes on without living up to their expected financial benefits. Everyone knows that already, but many people still get all excited about the prospect of a brand new casino in their backyard. The thing is, casinos are going to get built no matter what anyways, so the Boston area may as well have a higher-end destination like Wynn, that also offers restaurants, shows, a stunning gold-plated Popeye statue, and entertainment instead of bingo parlors and keno halls. At the very least, it will offer jobs that aren't currently there and clean up a polluted wasteland, and what could be built there without adding traffic?
....and we already have a place for the poor and demoralized in Mass., they are called Lawrence, Springfield, Brockton, Holyoke, Fitchburg. (just kidding) :)

It's pretty obviously a foregone conclusion that, if Wynn Boston succeeds, it will have absolutely nothing to do with proximity to Malden and Everett and everything to do with proximity to the exploding international traffic at Logan Airport... you know, that airport which people post about here seemingly every day in terms of new international connections?

By definition, one mega-high-roller from Moscow, Beijing, or Riyadh with a daughter or son a BU or BC or Harvard or whatever is worth the entire community of Malden or Everett in terms of expected total loss amount over whatever period of time you're measuring.

I know you're full of bitterness and hatred toward this project and the Massachusetts political scene in general, but, please, try to not let your emotions get the better of you before you post....

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Everett will be reaping a windfall, and not just in terms of financial payments from Wynn. Expect Gateway center to be Assemblified within the next 10 years, complete with a footbridge to the Assembly orange line stop. Expect Broadway between Dexter Street and Rt 16 to be completely redeveloped, probably with Boylston St in Fenway as the model.

Gee....Thanks. I thought that Wynn development would only be successful if it was only built in Everett over Dorchester. Are you serious? Anything developed close to Boston would have been a gold mine.

The reason for the bitterness will be the Traffic congestion. Which their has not been one solid traffic study or planned solution scenario done for a billion dollar casino development which is situated in a very high volume transit area.

As a Taxpaying citizen I would like to see our officials work on things like relieving traffic congestion for Boston.

See my previous reply to you on this topic. You keep claiming no traffic study.

You do understand that this has been studied extensively right? Studied, reviewed, commented, studied more, designed, and approved by MassDOT.

http://209.80.128.250/EEA/emepa/mep...ding for the Wynn Resort Project, Everett.pdf

If you want to attack the future traffic conditions, then discredit that study, but don't say it doesn't exist.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

I'll repeat what I said last November as to why the EIS traffic study is fundamentally flawed:

The EIS is a marvelous slate of hand that uses deceptive and dishonest methods to claim that the traffic impacts will be minimal. They use static traffic models rather than more appropriate dynamic models which take into consideration things like one intersection backing up into another. Those static models assume a linear relationship between traffic volumes and speeds, which does not take into effect highly nonlinear effects. Such models are not microscopic - they do not consider the presence of different vehicle types with different sizes, speeds, and accelerations. They use VISSIM - a high quality traffic simulation software - and then use it on one intersection at time rather than on whole areas at a time as it is designed for. They failed to use an actual regional model to determine real demand and what corridors that demand will take. They're planning to put 1,700 cars per hour through the Sullivan Square tunnel - which won't be there when the casino opens.

That is not merely flawed, and it is not merely a poor EIS. If this was a transit project, that EIS would get laughed out of the FTA funding process.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Are you serious?

Of course I'm serious. For some reason you feel obligated to take gratuitous and completely unwarranted cheap shots at entire communities--like when you assert Everett has an unusual amount of "degenerates."

Oh really? Got any statistical evidence to back that up? What makes Everett more full of "degenerates" than any other community with a similar socioeconomic/demographic profile?

I'm not an Everett native nor resident. But someone still needs to defend a community when people take cheap shots like that. ArchBoston is (in theory) supposed to stimulate thoughtful and intelligent discourse. Rabble-rousing cheap shots like that deserve to go in the sewers that pass for the Globe and Herald comment forums.

*end rant*

But, I completely respect your ongoing frustration--if not your need to vent--at the greater Sullivan Sq. traffic scenario. From what little I've seen, it must be absolutely horrific there during peak hours.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

I'll repeat what I said last November as to why the EIS traffic study is fundamentally flawed:

EGE -- None of those models are worth the silicon that they run upon -- problem with traffic models on the scale of Metro Boston -- what determines the dynamics is fluke events not normal everyday predictable and simulatable behavior

Just watch the traffic reports for an hour or so for a few days -- you will see that "drive times" from say NH border to entrance to O'Neil Tunnel can easily vary by a factor of 2 based on weather, strange events or just the wrong accident at the wrong time

a couple of days ago we had a garbage truck spill its contents on one major arterial -- blocking it completely for over an hour meanwhile on the same day in Lexington a significant connecting street to/from Rt-2 was blocked for several hours due to a tree that fell across the full width of the street. The garbage pick-up was relatively straightforward. However the tree fell onto and took down a bunch of wires, fibers and cables from two telephone poles and set a minor fire after blowing a transformer on another pole. As a result there were also police and fire vehicles in addition to nearly a dozen bucket trucks, a very large wood chipper, a flat bed truck and a crane -- and oh yes Verizon workers on strike who arrived to picket the supervisory personnel who were working on restoring the fios service to about 100 customers.

PS for you FIOS fans here's the update -- Verizon supervisors accompanied by harassing picketers were still busily splicing broken fibers yesterday PM with my friends in the area being told that service will be restored today

This thread is starting to get strange. Traffic engineering, hypothetical environmental impacts and a deep discussion on anthropology and sociology.

Can we get back to fussing of the height of the building, and stuff I don't understand like "street level activation"? - whatever that is.

:)

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Has anybody done an actual study on the amount of degenerates that surround the areas around Everett?

More importantly has anyone done a study on how degenerates directly impact traffic?
