Those midrises that bracket Mass Ave get my vote for the worst buildings in the city. There may be uglier ones, but these are ugly and prominently placed.

The harbor towers would beg to differ (sorry for going off topic).

Those are great! Is the 4th floor a residential floor or commercial or what?

After 40 yrs.of slumber this qualifies as an event, 700' buildings rising in Boston. The skyline will only improve with each shadow..

I may be in the minority but I dont hate the harbor towers above street level at all. I think they look perfectly fine and its cool to have twins. They just look like regular condo towers from decades ago. If anything the Longfellow towers look worse with their weird wings they have....but I dont even mind those either. Sorry even more off topic.

Theyre getting close to finish the base. This part is more complex and its pretty big so itll take a bit to finish, but all the hard stuff is over below grade. Once theyre building the tower floors its going to shoot up. I cant wait until this becomes visible from the pike and anywhere else it will be noticeable when it first breaks through. Going to be awesome to see, especially knowing whats to come.

I hate both of them, but I think Longfellow place is actually worse.

Both sets of twins have grown on me: I think the harbor towers are fantastic, and I actually like the harbor towers as well, though not as much. I really like brutalism although it doesn't always fit well into the human needs of its surroundings. The CSC is one of the best examples of brutalism and monumental architecture I've ever seen, anywhere.

I have to agree with Toby that the Huntington/Mass Ave twins are some of the most hideous buildings in the city, though, a distinction they share with the Sheraton and with the Hilton not far behind. Luckily, the CSC tower will pull the focus away from the adjacent duds and is already looking good - love those curves in the cement.

Email I just received from the Let Boston Rise website. Progress I guess.

"Thank you for joining us in our efforts to Let Boston Rise! One of the main goals of this coalition is to show our support for the Winthrop Square project, which will help our city continue to grow into a thriving destination.

We are pleased to share that Mayor Marty Walsh has officially filed the Home Rule Petition to modify the existing Shadow Law."

Here’s how you can help at this critical time:

Please contact the following City Councilors and let them know you care about this project moving forward. Every call and email counts!

It is definitely close between them all. I hate the Copley Place Westin, too.

Anyone know why the concrete spandrel beams are so deep on this one? Seems strange.

I am not sure but I can think of at least two reasons. The first being that because of the landfill below, they had to make sure that the biulding would actually stand up straight. The second is that by making them deeper, they could make them thinner.

When does the hotel start?

From the original plans (not sure if they've changed them since its dated from 2013):

-Level 2 is the restaurant
-Level 3 is ballroom/private functions
-Level 4 is mechanical
-Levels 5 and 6 are amenities related to the hotel, which starts at level 7
-Residential begins at 26

Man its beautiful to know no nimby can stop this now. Its coming and theres nothing anyone can do about it. Every floor is a growing middle finger to the opposition. Also just watching them pour this in place is a good watch knowing whats to come. We waited with this hole in the ground with what felt like forever and now its already shooting out of the ground. Bout time.
