The New Retail Thread

Trillium will be opening a beer garden in the Greenway! Super unexpected move, it is Boston after all...

M. Gemi (shoe store) opening in the Pru. Hammer Made (shirts) opened this weekend. All of the spaces are starting to fill in - it's like a new mall!

The only odd thing is that there has been zero progress on the food area (Anna's, Dig Inn, etc.)

Speaking of the food area, is Eataly still drawing big crowds? Or has it tapered off?

It's still drawing decently big crowds for sure, but nothing like it did when it first opened. The third floor restaurant is now open, FYI. Way more folks in here on the weekends than mid-week evenings.

I like it for groceries (i.e. the butcher is great), but the prepared foods aren't that great IMO.

Real Reporter's banner headline currently is $65 million sale of the old Barnes & Nobles building:

Presumably the incoming ownership group had some kind of agreement in place with H&M--as Lrfox has been hinting at--well before the property sale was finalized.

Lrfox?

It would make sense given what I was told about the timeline. I'll ask- I haven't had an update in a while.

Midici Pizza is gonna open its first Massachusetts location at assembly.

Shame. The food was interesting but not quite there. Same with the space, a bit betwixt and between. I hope something that can survive goes into that space (a restaurant preferably, not a bank!)

It's been closed since about January. She kept saying "I'm waiting until The weather is warmer to reopen." First it was late Feb. then March. Then April. I called in early April and the phone was disconnected. Knew it wasn't good.

I agree with the above sentiment though. The fried chicken, biscuits and gravy were out of this world good. But she didn't know what she wanted to do with the rest of the menu. One day it was gourmet sandwiches, the next it was hot dogs and burgers. There was no identity.

Best of luck to the next business.

What's going on with Better Bagels in the Seaport at the Watermark building? Doesn't look like they've made much progress. They announced around the same time as Ben and Jerrys which has been open for a couple months.

Globe: LL Bean to open in the Seaport.

Store at One Seaport Square will be small (8,600 sq.ft), in the same building as the bowling alley and movie theatre. Will be the brand's first urban location.

Interesting. They did have a store on Congress Street in Downtown Portland, ME but it closed a while back. So I don't know that this is technically their first urban location, but it will be their first in a major city. I think they'll kill it here.

Also, does anyone know about where we are with Tasty Burger at North Station? I walked by the other day and it seems like the site (I think the old pro shop) wasn't anywhere close to being complete and in January, they were anticipating a May opening. Asking for a friend.

The site is actually in the new avalon building. Windows are all tinted off so can't see inside.
