The New Retail Thread

http://www.bostonmagazine.com/restaurants/blog/2017/03/16/harpoon-patio-lord-hobo-seaport-expansion-plans/Boston Magazine has a slightly expanded take on all the beer news from the Seaport:

1) Harpoon Brewery - building out the outdoor patio
2) Lord Hobo - close to signing a lease in the neighborhood for a brewery and brewpub
3) Trillium - still no idea on where this is going (Lord Hobo spot could move into one of the spots that folks on here had been guessing for Trillium)
4) Hopsters - Taking over the former Sleeper Street Cafe space at 51 Sleeper Street http://www.bostonmagazine.com/restaurants/blog/2016/11/21/hopsters-boston-nationwide-expansion/

Alcohol in a public park? What about the children??? Seems like a slippery slope to me. Next thing you know they'll have a guy selling pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes with PBR tall boys and another selling marijuana-infused chocolate truffles!!!!

It could actually become the kind of place I'd want to visit, but I doubt it.

And back to back posts - Capital One 360 bank + Peets Coffee is now open in the Seaport along Seaport Blvd. And the Ben and Jerry's looks to be close to opening! They were getting a big ice cream delivery today!

I wonder if they'll be open in time for Free Cone Day next week!

Yesterday I was walking down Washington street and happened to stop and ask a couple construction workers what they were working on at the old fro-zen-up storefront. Guess a place called "Dig Inn" is expanding their Boston footprint. Boston Eater reported it back in 9/2016, but I hadn't seen anything on here about it. Looking online, it looks strikingly similar to sweetgreen locations.

It's huge and expanding like crazy in NYC. It's similar to Sweetgreen but goes beyond salad in scope - they have grains (rice, farro, quinoa) as bases in addition to salad. Then you pick sides (sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, spinach, etc.) and a protein (steak, charred chicken, salmon, tofu, etc.) to go on top of the base.

Each location has control over the food it offers and they are encouraged to order locally. Overall it's a great addition to the Boston fast casual scene IMO.

Sweetgreens is much more salad-oriented. Dig inn has hot dishes too. Good stuff. The Boylston St store is always crowded.

Washington-based fast casual Mediterranean chain Cava Mezze Grill is opening in a TBD location next year:

Cava is known for their humus, Harrissa, Tzaziki dips which are available nationally at Whole Foods. Their restaurants have a rotating selection of eight or so fresh juices and agua frescas.

Cava is a-maz-ing. Kind of a more ethnic SweetGreens.

Ben & Jerry's will be opening up a new shop in the Pru according to their web site.

(Side note: Today is free cone day, but the Seaport location isn't open yet.)

And speaking of the Pru, why has there been ZERO movement with the new food options?
