I absolutely hate this mish mash of window locations and, apparently now, window sizes!

Designers are struggling to find ways to bring texture to a building. The resources available are very thin. When the cost of the facade is so low designers have to take what they have and use whatever techniques they have. When the client says "make it unique" but says you get $15/sf for the facade you end up with these attempts at texture. I am in no way saying this is good ... I am just saying that it makes sense why it is happening.
 
The color reminds me of a pea-green gameboy screen, not sure if its worse (to me) than the windows.

Brick! I read an article a little while back saying all things considered brick is actually one of the cheapest facade materials. It works, looks good, contextual, cheap... why change. Im patiently waiting for the brick renaissance in Boston to finish what we started going out further away from downtown to tie the city and metro together.

Yeah, I think you are correct thankfully. I shouldn't comment on things half way across the world when traveling.
