Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Just got off the phone with GLX constructors - they say that the two steel elevated support columns still standing just south of Lechemere are going to stay there permanently as a reminder of the old elevated structure.
Is that four vertical beams each supporting [one of ] two cross beams (kind of like a pair of croquet wickets?)

Elevated rail lines suck when they follow directly above a main road, but when they weave through the urban fabric on their own right of way theyre unmatched at providing wonderful views to transit riders. Cant wait to see the views from up there. The new northpoint cluster should even provide some really cool views from the elevated ROW once built out.

McGrath should have been downsized as soon as I-93 south was finally opened to traffic.

Have they filled in where it connects to the concrete viaduct?

They need to plant some trees when the viaduct is done, between the viaduct and the roadway. It looks way too much like the south side of Chicago. Images of the CTA elevated going by the old Cabrini-Green housing project come to mind.

Theres something extra crisp about that drone photo, I really like it
That U-Haul site off Joy st. must be worth an absolute fortune. Wonder how long those big chains like U-haul and autozone will take to cash in on those sites.

also, why did Somerville give the mercedes dealership and Cataldo permission to build/renovate completely unsuitable buildings steps from a t stop?

"Unsuitable" is a bit too judgmental. Given that Cataldo and Herb Chambers are own the land and are entitled to build what they see fit for their own businesses, it's far from "unsuitable".

That being said, I wonder what kind of development pressure will hit Cobble Hill, Inner Belt, and Brickbottom in the coming 2~3 years. With service set to start in November 2021, it feels like my neighborhood is about to see a lot of development in the next 5-10 years.

Both of them have been there in excess of 20 years (Cataldo def longer), so there's nothing inappropriate...they flat-out got there first long before the Major Investment Study for GLX was ever undertaken.

Herb's Benz is easily the more expendable of the two and probably the more willing party of the two to make a deal. Car dealerships (especially big chains) rarely stay on the same footprint for generation after generation. They're quasi-transient by nature. Cataldo, on the other hand...well, there's already a need for an ambulance dispatcher in the area and I can't see that need diminishing at all if the adjacent population is going to get way denser. They're a necessary public service, and pretty good neighbors to boot.

Every time I see Herb's chopper taking off or landing, I am more and more excited that they leave my 'hood.

Wait, did Cataldo always own the site south of Washington st?
And just because herb chambers owned the land doesn't mean the city shouldn't have negotiated for something more than a new commercial van warehouse. I do think that's new development that doesn't suit the location.
The new Cataldo building and Commercial van building were empty sites two years ago.
I find it odd that they would green light a new ambulance base right at the pedestrian entrance to a T station.
