I like the ones were the H-beams in the retaining wall have fittings or stand a little higher, suggesting that they'll be used for the OCS (overhead contact system).

The ports on the pilings between Central and Sycamore imply that they’re going to do an embankment for the tie back drill rig, but they’re placing the final retaining wall panels. Odd.

Is there any particular reason, beyond cost, that the project seems to shift from the pastel green painted steel used for the areas around Lechmere to the brown (unpainted?) steel being used for the junction and flyovers?

^ Painted vs weathering: Any place where you care what is directly under the steel it is preferred that you use painted steel.

Corten steel (weathering steel) can drip rust-colored water onto adjacent surfaces like sidewalk or siding and stain them permanently.
