Union Square D2.1 | 10 Prospect Street | Somerville

There’s a cool site model on display at the US2 office (it’s in Union Sq, storefront space). I rang the bell the other day and one of the developers kindly gave me a quick tour.

This feels like a dated take from ~5 years ago before Bow Market and the absolute explosion of stuff in and around Sanborn Ct, especially the bars and nightlife.
I'll be more clear I suppose - I live there. We just lost Bull McCabes, Thunder Road, Brass Union etc, and lots of the restaurants are still closed some combination of Sun-Tues. Retail-wise Workbar just closed and Greentown is nowhere near capacity again yet.
There are lots of weekday events, but you certainly aren't seeing anywhere close to the activity of Davis, Porter or really even Inman.

Do I believe all of the office+residential construction will densify and activate the area? Of course, but let's not pretend it's already happened.

I'm very high on this project - come check it out! PS Fluff Festival is all this week!

McCabes is a genuine loss. Nobody "lost" Brass Union -- it's just now Vera's. Restaurants/bars changing names (and ownership, menus, chefs) happens everywhere with great frequency (and did well before the pandemic). And as someone who both was a patron (once. bleagh) and performer at Thunder Road, *that* one is no "loss." The previous tenant at that spot, Radio, was a far greater loss.

Union is not at the activity level of Porter or Davis (though not THAT far off), but I'd put it on par with Inman, easy.

Sincere question: Is this an especially wide core or does it just seem this way because of the contextually low level neighborhood? To my untrained it it looks very fat.

I’d imagine there will be at least 4 elevators and 2 stairwells in that core. That being said I don’t see many ‘entries’ into the core at each floor level. Perhaps the upper floors will have dedicated elevators that skip the lower floors? Anybody know how this works?

Agree. I ate dinner there last night and it is rather 2001 how alien this monolith feels in a neighborhood of 1 and 2 story storefronts.
