Portland International Jetport | PWM

I noticed this, why stay 14 hours? The same goes for BGR to Key West, BTV to New Orleans..

February was a sad month for aviation and many chose not to fly. You add in weather and AA cancelling a whole week to DCA, that, you would think, would make up for that 8k and some.
My guess is in the fall PWM goes direct to LAS with Breeze. Time will tell!
Still predicting a record year at the Jetport, no surprise!

Despite airline industry turbulence, Maine airports see spring traffic taking off

Despite ongoing airline industry turbulence with several major carriers scaling back short-term financial outlooks, Maine’s two largest airports see mainly clear skies ahead for the coming months.
“At this time we are still seeing positive capacity for the spring season,” Paul Bradbury, director of the Portland International Jetport, told Mainebiz.
“Our airlines have added significant additional capacity this spring, and we have a new carrier, Avelo Airlines, commencing service in May,” he said. "We do not have airline advance booking data, but we do know the number of seats the airlines have scheduled for sale out of PWM."
Outbound capacity data shared with Mainebiz show that between February and July 2025, airlines have 777,220 seats available for sale on flights departing from the Jetport, compared to 696,480 available seats the same period last year.

Bradbury called the 11.6% year-on-year jump "significant" but noted that the airport won't know the number of seats sold until a month after the flights occur.
Starting in May, Breeze Airways offer flights between Portland and Columbus, Ohio, while Houston-based Avelo will launch a twice-weekly route between Portland and Tweed-New Haven Airport in southern Connecticut.
Up north in the Queen City, Bangor International Airport is also banking on a busy spring despite some planned closures during the second part of its $45 million runway revamp project. (The first closure that will affect passenger, tenants and airlines will be from 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22 until 11 a.m. the following day.)
“I can’t provide numbers as we don’t have forecasts, but if we continue to stay on trend, we will see a record number of passengers this spring,” said Aimee Thibodeau, the airport’s marketing and business development manager.
“Delta has added Atlanta and Detroit as seasonal flights, so we expect an increase there as both destinations provide a variety of options for travelers,” she said.

Wider view

The upbeat projections come even after four major U.S. airlines — Delta, American, Southwest and JetBlue — downgraded their first-quarter financial forecasts from earlier projections in their latest regulatory filings.
Reasons cited by the carriers range from lower consumer and corporate confidence caused by heightened macroeconomic uncertainty, to the impact of Jan. 29 mid-air collision in Washington, D.C, on domestic leisure travel.
All four carriers have flights out of the Portland International Jetport, while American and Delta are among carriers serving Bangor International Airport.
"We do pay attention to the revenue downgrades, but the more important data is what the airlines are actually scheduling for service," Bradbury said.
"The airlines are continuing to add capacity for 2025 over the record capacity we had in 2024 so they are not 'downgrading' their outlook on Portland's travel market this spring and summer," he noted.

Plan for even more than the current projections with air travel this summer. Tourists and potentially new residents are coming to Southern Maine this coming spring, summer, and fall like we've never seen before. And 7 luxury cruise ships in June? It used to be 1 or 2. Curiosity, maybe, to buy something? Boxy simple designed modern homes on the beach for $8.4 million? They don't want the classic mansions on the beach the way it used to be, so it's new, tech, Green, and modern on the beach, lake, and in the city and it doesn't have to be large in square footage, either.

Looks great! Really brightens up the space. I assume this same carpet will be installed in the east wing (gates 1-6) too?
1-6 gates carpeting reminds me of the feeling I get when walking through the old La Guardia with its 8-foot-high ceilings and ceiling panel stains. Why allow that? Embarrassing.

Having just been at gate 3 this morning, the east end of the terminal REALLY needs a facelift. It doesn’t blend at all with gates 7-14 and the harsh lighting really makes it feel dated and unwelcoming.

New jetways are coming to that end as well as new carpet... I was there the other day and it seems all of the circular exterior doors are broken. Those rotating doors are the worst and break down all the time due to weather, looks like they are replacing one set near baggage claim. Sliding doors seem to work the best.

It may be telling that the only revolving doors I know of in Greater Portland are the ones at the Jetport, and the one(s?) between One and Two Monument Square.

@Portlander just provided me these pics with permission to post them ..

Well that explains why the terminal had not been cleaned when I flew out of Portland 10 days ago. I headed to Atlanta on the 5:30 a.m. flight from Gate 8 and the place was embarassingly filthy. Not really fond of the colors of the new carpet but at least it's clean.

Yep. When I flew out 10 days ago all of the revolving doors were out of service. They work great as long as they are properly maintained. The problem wi9th sliding doors is that they require a vestibule of there is going to be any hope of conserving energy.

Remember before the addition when it was one big sliding door with no vestibule? And if a lot of passengers were entering or leaving the doors stayed open and the interior temperature of the terminal would drop by 30 degrees on a cold day in the winter.

Nice job PWMFlyer and I'm glad to see they included windows to the elevated passenger corridor that connects to the jetways. (y)

And A/C...lol, this could work on the other end of the terminal? The other jetbridges should arrive soon as well as the replacement jetways...

I forgot to mention that Paul told me last week that 220 new seats have been ordered but will not arrive until later this fall which means the gate areas may look a little sparse for a while. The carpeting was completed all the way to Gate 5 and heading east when I flew in yesterday and the air handler installation (Gates 1 and 2 area) should be completed in a few weeks.

At last check the short term plan is to fill in the dead space in the center which will provide much needed seating and potential restrooms in the Gate 1 A/B and 2 area. The ground level regional jet boarding bridge will be replaced with an elevated full service jetway. There have also been discussions concerning our outdated ATC tower on whether to renovate or replace so the FAA has a stake in what happens with any expansion plans to the east.

Do you know what's actually outdated about the tower? I know it's vintage; I remember when it opened in the early 70's (when the tower walls were blue).

According to the master plan, they were supposed to build it on the South Portland side near the circle. If they move it, I heard they lose the atc to Boston.

Outdated in that the structure itself is over 50 years old and not related to any of its current equipment and technology. It has been many years since I've been in the tower and I always felt that it should have been at least 30' taller which may happen if it gets replaced.
