“A developer from the Big Apple is lining up something big in downtown Richmond.

An unnamed New York firm is floating a plan for a mixed-use high-rise tower for the vacant lot at 703 E. Main St., according to planning documents obtained by BizSense.

Preliminary conceptual plans show that the new tower could stand over 400 feet tall and include hundreds of residential units, hotel rooms, a grocery store, office space and restaurant/retail space.

The mystery firm is working on a development proposal that it plans to submit to the Commonwealth of Virginia, which owns the roughly 1.25-acre plot……”

KL is home to the second building in the world, Merdeka (Freedom) 118. It was topped off a while ago, but they're still doing work on the inside of the building.

Nice pictures, I've always liked the 'one giant monolith flanked by midrises' type skyline lmao. Probably has something to do with the fact that Taipei was like that when I was small :ROFLMAO:

Beautiful pictures of a beautiful city. One question I have is how is the ground level activation there? Ive never been there, but KL in pictures seems to be pretty car centric, especially for an east/south asian city. It does seem to be improving though. Is that your impression or am I way off base?

KL is a funny city. It's densely populated, but it's walkability is severely lacking.

If you go to Bukit Bintang (a central district with lots of malls, restaurants and bars), it's as vibrant and walkable as any place in Asia. But outside of that. you'll really only find good, comfortable walkability in certain sections. The reason is that the old housing districts may be dense, but they lack sidewalks or any sort of safe walking environment. Here's an example of what I mean. This is a place called USJ 6, located in a KL suburb known as Subang Jaya: https://maps.app.goo.gl/c474tuM5UBQZ6Apq8

Then, with many of the newer developments, you get very tall and dense buildings, often located above small (but sometimes big) shopping malls. Everything you could ever want is located within the complex, so you can walk/take an elevator to get most of your necessities, but once you go outside of the building, the walkability becomes challenging. Here's an example of that: https://maps.app.goo.gl/SFXsQkcqn2ZP3seM8

Then, in other areas you have new condos, often built near shop lots, that do have some amount of walkability, but the street wall is often literally a wall: https://maps.app.goo.gl/33GXT6Nm1Nbfks3B7

But there is hope. A place like Desa Park City gives me hope that one day KL can tie its neighborhoods together to make a more Singapore-esque, cohesive city, where you can walk from one neighborhood to the next without the fear of being hit by a car. https://maps.app.goo.gl/3NBo1FwE7Rn4UqKE6
