Tallest building in town, can you name the city?

It is not but you are in the right part of the country. Also, the name of the building is not important, determining the city it is located in is what we're looking for. And welcome to the forum fellow new member! :)
Hey, fellow new member! 😂

(I cheated on DZH's entry)

This is, so far as I can tell, the tallest habitable building in this historic City in the Great Plains, well-known for its lawmen both real and fictional.

So what is the answer to DZH's challenge? It appears to be a rather bland college dorm tower located outside of the downtown area of a small city.

Easy one. Quite possibly the only city in the country that has a Wal Mart across the street from its tallest building!

Sometimes appearances can be deceiving...
but not always!

(Spoiling in case someone wants to get it more fairly...)
It's the Fox Student Union at UMass Lowell.

Thought it looked familiar and it turned out to be a rather bland college dorm tower located on the outer fringe of the downtown area in a small to medium sized city. :)

I figured the "Service Building" was fairly familiar to northern New Englanders and especially the skiers that frequent Rutland during the winter. Also thought the Wal Mart clue might make it too obvious. Good job!

I drove through Rutland once in 1984, so I was never going to get it (I was looking at Bentonville).

This recently constructed 14 story tower dominates the skyline of this rather remote regional hub that has mainline service to Florida. To find a taller building you would have to drive around 100 miles to the north or south and 80 miles to the west. It has its own MSA which will narrow the search down to one out of 387 cities!

Salisbury MD! Took a punt at the sign and plugged that into a corporate search - not too many companies include the exact string "Joseph M." ... And don't you get me back looking at airports!

Well done and I thought I trimmed enough of that sign off, obviously not! :)

This handsome 10 story building is located in the state's fourth largest city with a population that exceeds 50K. The railroad was a major key to its success and you can catch flights to Las Vegas, Phoenix and Dallas from its regional airport.

Re: Salisbury, I hadn't thought to blow it up looking for clues... but did they wrap the tower around a couple of old facades?

They did Mark and it was required by the city to move forward with the project. If I remember correctly, only the facade curtain walls were salvaged very similar to one of the PMA entries that wanted to integrate the front of the Children's Museum into their building.

This city of around 10,000 residents only has 2 square miles to count them but deserves two photos to show off its density. Do not underestimate this small but important regional hub that had a US Navy ship named after it and is the birthplace of an iconic fast food menu item.
