That's a bummer it closed. I'd occasionally go there for cooked duck eggs and wacky-flavored potato chips on my lunch break. There's another similar market just down the street, but still: a loss.

I believe there is supposed to be ground floor grocery retail space in the new building planned. Hopefully something similar comes back in the new building.

There really wasn't any reason to try to salvage the current building -- it's a bit of a mess.

I hear ya on a personal basis, but it didn't close - - it moved. Given that area of Newton Centre, I'd venture to guess the cash flow is quite good and they're looking to grow.

Good point. Mine was a largely selfish reaction, although I do feel that developments like this one speak to the increasing diminishment (that's a word, right?) of Chinatown.
