Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Re: South Boston Seaport

I know at least a good portion of Charleston (the part I've visited) is urban, as is Santa Fe (one of the oldest cities in America,) but can Savannah be considered urban? I've never been there so I'm in no position to judge it. The only thing I know about it is the St. Patrick's Day party is a pretty big deal, something about a green river like Chicago...

Re: South Boston Seaport

You're all forgetting the city the Europeans lost most...ORLANDO! No kidding. I believe it exceeds european vistors to NYC.

Re: South Boston Seaport

^^only in a very small area, its average density is near the bottom among major American cities.

Really?

New Orleans is generally walkable, dense, urban. Even if you were just considering the extremely dense French Quarter (which is only a fraction of downtown) it is still a large neighborhood (about the size of the Back Bay and much more dense).

Savannah is urban it's large historic district (about 28 square blocks). It's original layout is intact.

New Orleans Density: 2,518/sq mi (973/km2)

Re: South Boston Seaport

^Does that figure include the large areas of the city undeveloped due to swampland?

Re: South Boston Seaport

I moved all the music discussion over here but you can still talk urban design in this thread.

Last shot makes it clear what the SBW will be: Rosslyn-on-Sea.

"Arlington Temple United Methodist Church is possibly the world's only church located on top of a gasoline station."

that made me laugh a bit. But yea, its a pretty good comparison..they even have a building in the same style as fan pier!

Re: South Boston Seaport

OK So I drove through the seaport and noticed they tore down the Old Cranes next to the pavilion. Any idea what project is going on down there ?

I assume due to safety reasons they tore them down but not sure. There has been a lot of "Kids" Down there lately and they might have brought the heat themselves which may have caught the eye of the owners but again can't be sure of that.

Any thoughts ?

Re: South Boston Seaport

The cranes might have been part of Liberty Wharf, and they just don't need them anymore. I have no clue.
