Daniel Libeskind’s first building in NYC...

I've always found him to be a self-important hack, and his work little more than histrionic twaddle.

A cursory look at this project is strong evidence that he's now pilfering his betters -- Ingels, Nouvel, Snøhetta, Hadid, Koolhaas...

Holy moly...

JPMorgan just announced it will be demolishing its 52-story NYC headquarters to build a new, 70-story tower:

Here's the current tower:

Couldn't they literally just light a billion dollars on fire, sell this tower, buy a different plot close by, build their 1500 footer there, and save a billion dollars in the process? This is one of the most ridiculous things Ive ever seen. Theres no way in hell this makes business sense this is a freaking 700' tower.... Sell the damn thing and buy some land down the street, theres buildings going up all over the city just buy there or rent out a Hudson Yards tower. Id love to hear someone explain how this makes sense.

If Wikipedia is correct, it will become the tallest building in history to be voluntarily demolished. The first on the list currently is the Singer Building,(612 feet/187 M) also in NYC, demolished in 1968 to make way for One Liberty Plaza.

When I was out in Chicago last I rode on the 606 or Bloomingdale Trail. The JC Embankment would be an awesome path like that.

havent been to this thread in a while. whatever that hideous monstrosity is towering over the empire state bldg is... a hideous monstrosity. i vaguely remember reading about it not long ago but, still, ugh. at least 432 park is simple and doesnt grab attention with a garbage crown... (i like 432 park, anyway, tho i know many dont)

anyway, stick, that NJ embankment project looks awesome, thx for posting that.

Was in Boston yesterday on what was one of those gorgeously clear and sunny Autumn days, and it got me thinking to how the Boston area is truly special in just how gorgeous some fall days can be. NYC's falls are quite nice too, but not as nice -- it gets maybe three of those days a year.

Anyway it got me thinking of some shots I took last year showing off some of those rare crisp, sunny days

Its crazy what the largest development boom in history looks like at NYC scale. Truely incredible what theyre doing right now. That includes an entire new subway tunnell being bored on the west side as well with new stations and the new transit hub at Hudson Yards is amazing too.

One of New York’s most recognizable skyscrapers is reportedly selling for a song.

RFR Holding LLC, a New York real-estate firm led by Aby Rosen, and the Austrian real-estate firm Signa Holding GmbH is buying the Chrysler Building for $150 million, according to reports from Reuters, The Wall Street Journal and The Real Deal, citing unnamed sources knowledgeable of the deal.

The sum is 81-percent less than the $800 million the seller – Abu Dhabi Investment Council – paid in 2008 for a 90-percent stake in the art-deco tower. Commercial property values in New York plummeted soon after as the financial crisis struck.

The owners put the building on the market in January.
