One Manhattan Sq is a horrendous blight on the East River. It's truly a tragedy for the skyline and views of the bridges. Not to mention its impact on the neighborhood.

Very unique view. Downtown Brooklyn skyline from manmade hills in new park on Governor's Island. Looking over East River / Buttermilk Channel.

I hate that thing so much. That isn't NYC, that's sociopathy writ in three dimensions.

Damn, Stik. If you panned a little lower on that 4th pic you'd have caught Kati Roll.

This building is kind of obnoxious.

I guess its just the natural progression of NYC into one of those cities in star wars where its just ridiculously tall buildings for as far as the eye can see.

Its definitely out of place right now but theres a few more going up next door so eventually it shouldn't stand out sooo much, although this almost makes it even more obnoxious. Idk well have to wait and see. Like I said though this is Manhattan, this is what they do.

That's exactly what I meant about ugly shit ruining our skyline. Furthermore there is some serious talk about changing the zoning to block those other towers.

What is wrong with one manhattan square exactly? Is it just out of scale with the area its in? I'm not disagreeing I just dont completely undestand why its so obnoxious

45 Broad St looks awesome. That Brooklyn Neo-Art Deco tower is awesome. I love me some NYC.

It looks like a taller, better proportioned version of what we're getting for the North Station residential.

^^ Agreed, here's hoping reality lives up to the rendered hype.

Well... to start with the superficial, the glass pattern is tacky and the glass quality is low (this is obvious even from a distance), and the massing is about as zero effort as it gets. Next up is the fact that this zero-effort massing and glazing does absolutely nothing to respond to its context, and looks like it was literally plopped there from out of the sky (bridges? river? neighborhood? who cares). And then there's the whole socioeconomic/gentrification/greedy developers side of things which I don't think I need to spell out, but rest assured that this new tower raises serious questions about the city's future.

Bottom line IMO is that it reads as a completely tone deaf fuck-you-IDGAF from the developer to just about everyone else in existence. It's second world garbage on a first rate plot.

Do people really not like this? I think this sets a good precedent where we can get art deco type towers with setbacks at the roof and spires on glass towers. One of these would look great here. I wouldnt mind something like this here with an ESB looking tower in glass.

Underwhelming. Cartoonish. Amateur.

Art Deco is more than a silhouette. It's materials and details. This is a shape without craft, little more than a rehash of the BofA tower at Bryant Park with a stovepipe hat. The asymmetry is a nod to the "playfulness" of Gehry, like old Frank was putting his stamp on the ESB. And then, it's nowhere near as imaginative as Gehry...

It'll look dated before it's finished.

My $0.02
