Oh come on, it’s more than just a featureless monolith. If it were, wouldn’t it just fade into obscurity? It’s easily one of the top 5 recognizable buildings on the Boston skyline. I’ve always considered the slender sides as bookends — a symbol of sorts that protects the contents of the interior.

Well, Boston isn’t the only city keen on tearing down historic facades for glass boxes.

I agree with this. I was simply responding to the comment regarding a Grand Central comparison, a Beaux-arts designed station built in the City Beautiful area of station building. I would suggest that the MFA evokes more of that "grandness," if you will.

^I'm aware of what it looked like before some of the demolition. It was certainly an improvement over the current iteration, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it was "grand" like some of the other examples.

South Station was never built with the "grand hall" of places like Grand Central, Union Station, 30th Street Station. Not that it doesn't deserve an upgrade. The historic North Station was much more "grand" by comparison.

The last great metro system built in USA. Although, I do miss the classical music they once played in the stations.

I love how cavernous the interior is — evokes a feeling of mystery and excitement (at least to someone who appreciates brutalist designs).

I think it embraces pretty well. The highest portion of the building is a nod to the neighboring Suffolk building ahd the vertical elements overall speak to the block.

The Bellemont is wonderful. A building like this would nicely fit into the Back Bay.

These buildings inching closer to the Mass Pike are adding a lot of dimension.

It’s not a terribly crazy idea for improvements to the Green line.

I recall as far back as 2001 they were eyeing demolition of thst building. Between Brown’s comments and deferred maintenance, that still seems to be the case. I would have to see what an alternative would look like before coming down heavily on one side or another of a plan.

That video is a truly great find. There should be a YouTube channel dedicated to his interviews.

While I typically do not agree with demolition of older buildings, I could see a rationale in this instance. The Pardee building will no doubt be another statement building and the expanded greeenspace would completely change the functionality of the mall. Also, the social work building is truly...
