    The New Retail Thread

I ate at the new American Craft over the weekend and really enjoyed it. Great food, atmosphere, staff, and excellent beer selection. The blue cheese\beer fondue that came with the chive fries (appetizer) definitely brought out my "oh" face. Amazing stuff! Washington Square continues to be...

    The New Retail Thread

As a property owner in Cleveland Circle, I'm thrilled to see many of the nearby businesses finally beautifying the area. (sure, the new, much louder Cityside bar is compelling me to spend 6k for some soundproof windows in my condo but that's a story for another time and place) Also, a couple...

    World-class Boston

I would argue that Harvard, MIT, Beacon Hill\Back Bay, the Museum of Fine Arts, Fenway Park, and Symphony Hall are all highly respected world-wide in each of their respective categories. Many of the other places mentioned here are simply great for American standards. What?s that called...

Lancaster Boston | 1501 Commonwealth Ave | Brighton

Re: 1501 Commonwealth Ave I'm actually interested in a condo across the way from this place and think anything would be a huge improvement to what is there now. As for the "dumpy" neighborhood comments, I'm a little worried now. It's not the Back Bay or Harvard Square but it seems ok whenever...

Mandarin Oriental | 776 Boylston St | Back Bay

Re: Mandarin Oriental They recently installed CharlieCard gates at the Hynes Green Line entrance so that hints that it should be opening soon.

    How Walkable Is Your Neighborhood?

Ron, Technically, the Target is in Somerville on the fringe of Union Square. Still able to walk there though from CS (don't have much choice since I don't own a car).

    How Walkable Is Your Neighborhood?

95 for my place in Central Square (University Park). Pretty much everything is within walking distance--Star Market, Target, beer store, library, cashed-checks store, beer store, cashed-checks store, etc.

    Boom Town

At this moment, a reader in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, just read the comment about New York?s building ?boom? and chuckled to himself in a patronizing fashion.

Camera on Kite Towering Above Boston

MIT students hang a camera from a kite and fly it up above Boston's skyscrapers... (photos) http://xkcd.com/kite/

Mandarin Oriental | 776 Boylston St | Back Bay

I took a peak at the brick behind the covering and agree that it looks very similar to that of North Point. I wonder why the Mandarin renderings on their website haven't been updated to show the brick? And to think we were so very close to getting an elegant piece of architecture added to our...

Diminishing labor force and its influence on development

This is probably off the topic of development but how about offering free tuition to college-bound students with the agreement that they stick around for at least 10 years? This approach is being explored by a state commission in my home state of Wisconsin to help curb their shrinking labor...

    ICA | 100 Northern Ave | Waterfront

As usual, the discussion on this board is focused on the aesthetics of the architecture from blocks away. A bit shallow in my opinion but rather typical for those who enjoy throwing in the word ?hippie? whenever they?re confused or angry about something. I?m holding off on calling this a...

    Citgo Sign Debate

I would argue that the spending habits of our leaders?on such things as rebuilding foreign nations and extravagant patriotic neon signs?is what?s destroying our nation, not liberalism. Americans seriously need to grow a thicker skin when it comes to such insults. Has it really come to the...

Mandarin Oriental | 776 Boylston St | Back Bay

Is the Mandarin going to be dressed in the tacky brick as shown in the mockup? The website's renderings show only elegant blocks of limestone and granite. Did they pull a Commonwealth Hotel and switch to the cheaper material?
