Specifically regarding North Main Street, it's a dead zone because it is essentially dead-ended by the tunnel/intersection at Lincoln Square in favor of Major Taylor Boulevard. A lot of Downtown's problems are legacy traffic management/car heavy roads from the 60s/70s. Personally I think...
Re: Green Line to Medford to start in 2011
If they finished the planning for this, or at very least the new Lechmere station, they could probably get stimulus money.
Re: New tower at Christian Science Church Plaza
New Article in the Courant about potential plans being developed for the plaza. In short: CSS want about 1 million+ sq. feet in development. They may shrink the plaza and the reflecting pool (the latter to as little as 1/4 the size).
Someone tried proposing a new residential apartment tower/building on the Library parking lot. It went nowhere (the Library Trustee Board I hear is really powerful in Worcester).
Reduce from 6 to 4 lanes. Un-"curve" it a bit and reimagine the rail underpasses (another issue entirely). I know...
Dissapointing, and doesn't address the other main issue which is the highway-like road that goes around downtown (McGrath Blv./Worcester Center Blvd), which should be made more urban.
I saw a documentary about him when he was running for the first time for mayor against the previous, allegedly corrupt, mayor (he lost). He actually took residence in one of the city's projects, but he was campaigning on reforming them (a contentious topic it turned out).
Re: Green Line to Medford to start in 2011
I thought part of the Northpoint development plan, at least proposed was to make the highway go through an underpass at that intersection.
Re: $1 billion development proposed to reshape downtown Quincy
In addition, the plan would change the street pattern and cut off downtown from the residential area to the south with a wide boulevard. A less minor issue, but compounds the negativity.
That's 1350, replacing the Burger King and going up against the party wall of 1330, I believe (though the website doesn't appear to be working completely for me to confirm).
Re: Mandarin developers eye Pike parcels for project
The Trinity proposal seems pretty deceptive to me. The renderings appear to try to hide the 50' gap over the pike, which they plan to hide with a low-level wall, they want to leave (I suppose it is expedient, so that they can avoid having to...
Re: Gov't Center Garage Redevelopment
Cook & Fox is appealing more to me, but I just don't like the larger tower (too derivative). The triangular approach of the larger tower in Foster certainly is new, but the base's interaction with the street is just ... eww. I really don't like Foster's...
Re: T construction news
Do they really need escalators at Kenmore? They're just going to break down and be less than useless, not to mention probably have to be turned off for Red Sox games.
Re: Mandarin developers eye Pike parcels for project
I think the Heights of these buildings are fine, though I don't like the form of the right-most building at all. After a second-look I definitely think analogous building I see in that picture for the ones on Mass Ave is...
