🔹 What's Happening With Project X?

Just a quick question - is there a thread that's following the work going on along Memorial Drive? I haven't seen any discussion of it on here at all but maybe I'm missing it. I'm particularly curious to know what that crane was doing.

The crane is part of some large drainage project that are doing. I've never been able to find out any details. There was a quick discussion of it in another thread but I can't find it.
 
Anything happening with a Quincy Market re-do?

This weekend we walked from the Seaport up the Greenway and into Quincy Market, and boom - it felt like we traveled back in time 25 years: the 80's "bubble lights," pavers in disrepair, concept/theme restaurants from back when that kind of thing was somewhat cool and interesting, junky pushcarts and loud chintzy street performers. Now, I acknowledge that there should be diversity among/between neighborhoods - I wouldn't want Quincy Market to become another Brooklynized high-end farm-to-table DINKsink. But, there should be some sort of middle ground here. At the very least, it NEEDS a facelift.

Another related complaint: the "curved" ramp parcel on the north side of the marketplace is a terrible drain on urbanity and makes the marketplace feel artificial and out of context. If that urbanity gap were filled, the experience would be much more believable.
 
It's a tourist trap and a popular one at that, what are you expecting? It doesn't need to be nicer to draw people there either because it's one of the few "must visit" tourist spots in the city.
 
Having a hard time searching for this one on here: whats the thread for the redevelopment of the Globe site? When I search, I get swamped with people quoting globe articles.

Has anyone thought about BOSTON getting a new tallest on top of the Hynes? FAA is 1,000’ and looks like it may go up for sale.

Anyone want to photoshop this?
 
Maybe not the best place for this announcement, but I don't want to add to the stickies:

"[X Neighborhood] Developments" threads have all been renamed "[X Neighborhood] Infill and Small Developments" threads. Please use those threads only for... infill and small projects. Apartment house-sized and smaller. Larger projects should get their own threads. We're going to be trying to start up specific project threads for the bigger developments that are still u/c and for which the general developments threads are being used as a catch-all. That will take some time.
 
Besides this site, I always check Wikipedia for the tallest buildings in Boston which shows all buildings built plus those under construction and those that have been proposed and/or approved.
About 2 or 3 years ago, they removed the 800' South Bay Tower. Just this past week it showed back up on the site as proposed. Anyone know if it was proposed again?

The site of the South Bay Tower has since been re-zoned by the BPDA at 300'.
It's conceivable it could go a few feet higher if a developer petitions for it.
Won't go much higher. Maybe enough to add a floor.

The edits should have been done to One Bromfield, not South Bay Tower. At least it appears to be that since if you click on the reference next to South Bay Tower, it brings you to the bottom of the page where you can click through to see the reference document and it's a One Bromfield architect brochure from a BPDA page.

That doesn't answer your question though, which is why South Bay Tower is back up there, but my guess is the contributor put in an old page or something?

Looks as though the contributor has only posted 2x on Wikipedia, both times on that page, whatever that may imply.

Why exactly was the South Bay Tower knocked off?
 
I don't know.

I also don't know why someone would be randomly checking the "tallest buildings in Boston" Wikipedia page on a regular basis .. unless they were looking for something specific ...

Speaking of which, does anyone by chance have a copy of

The South Bay Planning Study, Phase I Report

from 2004? This was a joint publication by the BRA (sic) and Massachusetts Turnpike Authority (sic).

I found 10 pages of it (out of 69 pages, I think?) on one guy's website but can't find the whole thing. https://www.daveseeley.com/p673210251

1. The 800' tower was never an official proposal.
2. The Great Recession happened.
3. At some point around that time, someone informed Menino the parcel falls under the Airway of Runway 9-27.
300' FAA limit.

Thanks for the 10 pages of the document. Given the dismal history of air rights development attempts over the Mass Pike, I don't have high hopes for this one happening in the foreseeable future, but it does look good (minus any adjustments per FAA height limits).
