I've made one more touch:

Thanks for the feedback and compliments.

PLEASE: Don't be afraid to give me constructive critisism. I want to make this perfect :)

They don't give me much resolution to work with, so things (like the Zakim) can't come out too great.

Wow, another thing I didn't think of. I'm glad I didn't attempt to recreate it, mine would have me tossing my computer out the window in frustration by now.

Shouldn't it be to the right though? Then you can have the skyline to the left of it, like it actually is. Just a thought. I don't think the bridge came out bad though, I like it.

I'm impressed so far CS, you've really taken to my complaining well. Keep up the good work.

Well, since I think that the view castevens is going for is the one from across the Charles, the skyline would actually be to the right of the Zakim.

That was my thinking. Actually its a big dilemma in my head right now:

Whether to go from across the Charles (more traditional, can show Hatch Shell and Fenway/Citgo) or from the airport (better skyline IMO, but uglier view of the Hancock tower).

I think that view has a better looking skyline, especially since it is all smooshed together as opposed to the Charles view which has the Hancock/Pru about 3,000 miles away from Downtown

The Crew Shell will make less sense coming from Boston Harbor rather than the Charles, but I've got to sacrifice SOME things to make this come out right

This is a really quickly done example of what the Harbor look would look like based completely on bowwest's picture (I hope you dont mind :) ). Obviously I would edit the buildings saturation and such, but I think I like this view better. I kinda wanted to do something with Fenway and light coming up from the stadium and the Citgo sign, but this skyline is probably better.

...

... you could still put fenway and the citgo sign on the far left...

OMG put that one on. I look so awesome!

^I'm glad that you're happy with the way you look, DarkFenX

Also, the panorama thing is looking great already. The Zakim effectively blocks out those two ugly towers to the far right :D

Oh damn, you bring that up NOW? haha, I've spent a while trying to fix the Zakim so it DOESNT do that...

Oh crap

Well at least I might have room for Fenway.

Ok I want to now find nice close-up pictures from the same basic angle of the buildings to replace these with, but I'll use this photo as a basis on where to put them

Wow, that's terrific! You've really captured the essential skyline, and adding the Zakim is a great touch. I love the way it catches your attention.

cat, I don't have any problems with you using my pictures for the renderings as long as I get a partial credit (if the renderings are credited).

Here are a few more to give you some more options.

This was taken much closer than the other one so it has alot more detail. The only problem is you can't really see the the Pru, Hancock, and 111. I don't know if you could work around that.

I don't know how much detail you need but from that angle this is the maxium amount of detail I have (of every building).

This one was actually taken from the water so its a pretty full view of the skyline. You might be able to stick the Zakim in on the right.

I don't know if these would be easier or harder to use...just giving you some options.

That is awesome CS. This doesn't even compare to the one that's up there now, it's light years ahead of it. I'm really impressed. Thanks for all the hard work, you've really done a great job. Now when I check out Boston I won't have to look at whatever piece of work is there now.

If you look at certain cities, I can't think of which off the top of my head but when I was going around looking specifically at the renderings I noticed they really just try to get every important building and structure in. So sometimes things aren't EXACTLY where they really are but they add them so that you get a feel for what's in the city as a whole rather than just getting a good view of a couple of buildings and then the rest is junk (see what's currently Boston's for an example of this).

So if you wanted to throw Fenway and the Citgo sign all the way to the left, even though it's not exactly where it is in reality, no one is going to complain. Infact I hope you find a way to do this, as Fenway is one of, if not the most recognizable Boston landmark.

re

In the same sentiment of including Fenway Park, maybe throw in some church steeples or the state house dome in there someplace? Just a thought, probably a terrible one, but its one architecture Boston is known for where our high rises may only have a few shining stars.

I prefer this one
testtemplate.jpg

because it has a more prominent Zakim bridge and Hancock Tower. I agree about squeezing in the Citgo sign and Fenway if possible, presumably towards the far left, and the State House plus a church (Old North?) or something brownstone-esque, maybe towards the right between the bridge and the Custom Tower, although brownstones, despite being so central to Boston architecture, might not be appropriate for this image because they're so short.

It does strain my mind/slightly bother me to imagine sailing boats and crew from that angle, but I think it's the best way to go, since the skyline from Cambridge just doesn't look as good.
