I can't imagine the reaction NIMBYs would have if there was an un-announced 1,000 footer. The construction doesn't top out at 10 floors, then 15 floors....GOOD LORD, 20 FLOORS! All the way up to like 75 or something. There would be riots in the streets I tell you.

How's google going to pay for this with the number of hits down and all.. along with its stock, for a couple days at least, I can't check up on google all the time. Why they haven't split is beyond me. I guess its a PR image thing.

I work in Kendall Sq, Google actually moved into three floors of my building recently. Their office seems like it is pretty fun!

I think Berry, the contractor, is using the Constellation Center site for staging.

The current owner is BioMed Realty Trust. They also are building 3 Blackfan Circle, so they can go high. But 3 Blackfan is pre-leased to various Boston hospitals. 650 East Kendall will likely be leased to a single pharmaceutical company. Developers build what they thick they can lease.

650 Kendall is now known as Kendall B. Kendall A is 675 East Kendall (Vertex), and Genzyme is Kendall D. So somewhere there will eventually appear a Kendall C.

To answer yankeeclipper's question, CBT are the associate architects, and CO Architects out of Los Angeles are the design architects.

These three renderings are on CO's site, although the first one is actually my picture of the on-site rendering:

CO's blurb on this project:

"The spatial concept derives from CO Architects' commitment to designing sustainable, energy-efficient buildings. Each facade is designed to minimize the detrimental effect of solar radiation while maximizing natural light. For example, a garden zone was created to mitigate heat gain on the western facade, which fronts a park. Vents at the bottom and exhausts at the top of the western exposure promote airflow. Building facades vary depending on geographic orientation. An internal, gently rising staircase connects public spaces, such as the winter garden, cafe and library, creating opportunities for scientists to meet and collaborate. A large-scale canopy extending over the sidewalk signals the location of the main entry. The canopy will also offer protection from intense summer sun, rain and snow, while still enabling light to penetrate the building."

Bravo kz! No overtime on this job (not a soul to be seen). The second pic under views shows much of the land along Binney that Alexandria proposes developing for its mega-lab complex.

Thanks for the pics kz - is there a worse building in New England, or perhaps the world than the East Cambridge Court house/prison high rise? In every single sense of the word, the building is offensive.
