Aerials

^^Not bad. Double that starting from the right edge, and paste it into a giant 10Meg image, say in about 7 years. It should be quite impressive.

Hey Guys! I am new to this ArchBoston forum, and am excited to be in the community now. I am an aspiring Urban and City Planner, and hope to obtain a job in the New England area. I have a few aerial photos I took on 6/3/2019, although they are not amazing.. I thought they were worth sharing regarding the quality of the photos. Taken with my Google Pixel 2.

Nice view of Boston and Just west of the city:

Those are actually some cool angles, Ive never seen Franklin Park line up like that to look like a Boston central park.

Welcome, Massachoicetts - - love the pics! (especially #2 - Assembly Square)

Great photos! 1-93 really looks like a snake in 2 and 3.

The problem with all these aerials is they're too high, too steep & too wide. The best aerials, imo range from hobby-drone level to maybe ~50-70% higher–from more interesting angles/vistas, and not all so wide. These too high/steep/ wide angles take an already challenged/brown skyline, and make it look squat, drab & featureless.

Welcome to aB!! Take this general spot, but maybe 1/2 mile or a mile closer, then get down to about ~700' off the ground–you'd have one of the most impressive places for drone shots that would enhance the skyline to the max!

It’s just another way of perspective. Everything doesn’t always have to be about your John Holmes obsession. DZ’s long distance shots make buildings look short and wide but they provide a different view and shed light to the viewer to understand the location in a new way. Same thing with higher distance shots which incorporate more spatial relationships - i.e. showing the actual distance/relationship of Assembly to Northpoint in the above pic. Not everyone has your singular fetish.

No, they're fantastic and appreciated. Are you now going to spew into your usual bullshit whining about how every building should have another 20-50 floors there Rainman?

If we’re lucky maybe we’ll even get a list! I’ve always wondered when he craps one of those out in the Globe comment section whether he copies and pastes from a word doc he has saved for that purpose or if he assembles it from scratch on the spot.

That's a bit over the top (no pun intended). Sounds like you're personally insulting a guy because he likes tall buildings.

Maybe so, but it gets ugly when people start the heated up characterizations. I don't care for it myself.

I agree. You're absolutely right. Though written at 3:48am during a bout of stomach flu, there's still no excuse - the wording of the post was inappropriate.

At the same time, your creatively edited "quote" of my post made it look far worse than it was. You fully know that's NOT how it was written. If "......." is not used between edited out sections to conjoin two completely separate phrases, then it is simply misrepresentation of someone's post. At least be truthful. ty.pe001 was spot on when he responded to you "That is not it".

But regarding the actual post, yes, I will take care to do better in the future.

Im sorry, but you cant make Boston look like something its not.

The goal of the aerials were to capture the local urbanism and see how it compares to other areas around it.

I can see my neighborhood in this one (and my house I suppose, if I could zoom in far enough)!
