My spitball suggestion - can we do more with the development map stickied in the top of the new development forum, elevate it somehow and appoint a mod to keep it updated?
 
Now that the site's been updated, I assume next steps include elevating more mods and a community discussion about forum organization and new features. We've talked a lot in the past about reorganizing the "Outside Boston Metro" forums, do we want to re-open those discussions? A maintained development map is a great idea. Likewise a depository in each project thread for up-to-date renders.

Can I make a plea for the old "Jump to last unread" button? That was primarily how I browsed these forums, and the lack of it makes it more difficult to keep up with things.

Yeah, I think this is problematic for two reasons. First, the license is something people with serious content should not agree with. I'm not talking about banter type posts, but something involving research, technical writing, photographs, etc. We shouldn't grant a permanent, irrevocable, unlimited license for such content. Second, the fact that the terms can be unilaterally changed without notice means that even if we agree to the current terms, our content is not protected from future changes and we have no ability to control that. These are terrible terms and conditions, and if I were somebody who had actual meaningful content to offer, I would not accept them.

I'd be very interested to know when these terms were put up, before the upgrade, or as part of it.

Agree. This is no fucking bueno. Throw this nonsense in the fire, or I'm out. And I'm pretty sure I won't be alone.
 
While familiarizing myself with this new set-up last night I came across this old post from 2006 talking about a re-design back then. Liking this new configuration more each day.

Thanks! It's working somewhat oddly, but it's definitely working. If there's no unread posts in a thread, clicking the title takes you to the first page. But if there are unread posts and you haven't read the thread, it also takes you to the first page (because it's taking you to the first page you haven't read, which is the first). This was throwing me off, but if I click on a thread that has only a few unread posts it's working.

On the licensing issue: I want to once again point out that such a clause is what allows this site to host your content. If you didn't grant them a license to show your work to others, they wouldn't legally be able to do so. Having this license be permanent means that they aren't forced to delete posts after a certain period of time. The only potential issue is the irrevocable one, but that is bypassed by simply deleting your posts. I agree that changes to the policy at least should require notice, though.

I'm no expert on this, but you might have to mark all threads as read, then it might work as expected, as the forum thinks you haven't read any of the older posts on here(?).
 
^^ Oh yeah. I forgot about that bit. That definitely helped. I also start at the What's new button on menu bar at the top.

This issue needs to be prioritized and solved. It will have the effect of driving away contributors who have the most to offer. I've been sitting quietly and hoping that when these terms came out, they would be acceptable to Beton and others who have been very clear that this is an important issue to them. I am disappointed to see that that is not the case, and would really like to see this fixed so that we can continue to enjoy contributions from some of the most erudite and insightful among us.
