Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage)

Lol, I thought today was yesterday.

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage)

+1 Love the original proposed tower

This?

It's not bad, but at the same time, for something so front and center, I feel like we could expect better.

How about this?

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage)

I'm here now. Surprise surprise, a lot of elderly Harbor Tower residents here.

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage)

Somebody should point out that Harbor Towers are themselves 40 stories (400') tall.

Its the grossest, most self-serving hypocrisy for any HT residents to assert that the right height for that area is 20 stories.

The real fact of the matter is the garage was supposed to be the third tower around 400ft tall when Harbor Towers was first proposed.

At this point Harbor Garage is more of a problem on the ground floor to the Greenway than the Height at this point.

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage)

Chiofaro is proposing a 600ft tower.

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage)

Love it...was just looking at the FAA map and concluded that ~600ft is the ceiling.

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage)

break out the smelling salts.

Nice. Seems like a contextual height for the area. Same height as One International Place, nine feet taller than the First National Bank Building, one foot shorter than One Boston Place and 25 feet shorter than the Millennium Tower. Quite the Plateau.

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage)

Were any images released or shown?

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage)

Yeah... not one ounce of that is making it through VE. Pure fantasy eye-candy renders right there.

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage)

Tomorrows Front Page News
Former Mayor Menino proposes fist fight with Chiofaro on the Greenway to settle the score on shadow controversy.

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage)

Wow, that looks great. This is exactly what the area needs. The retractable roof is especially great since it would allow people to be outdoors during the summer and not freeze their butts off during the winter.

It's also smart to not release the full shots of the buildings yet (even though that's obviously what we all want to see). Limiting people to only see what this will do from a ground-level perspective gives NIMBYs less ammunition and could help this building get some momentum with the BRA/mayor before the inevitable wave of resistance the neighbors come with once the full renderings are released.

It would have been hilarious if mid-presentation, music started to blare and a WWF-like announcer shockingly & quizzicly yelled out "that sounds like Mayor Menino's music!!!", only to have Menino come charging down the center aisle and smashing Chiofaro with a folding chair.

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage)

Again there are multiple renders of this if you click "Photos". No full renders though.

Love it and can totally picture it! Then Menino grabs the mike, yells something unintelligible, throws out his back, and gets a hospital bed right beside Chiofaro's. New reality tv series!

Agreed. Nobody can/should believe anything in those renders except the rough massing of the buildings.

I wanted to support the project (and probably still would even after the glitz is value-engineered away), but, frankly, it gives the Harbor Towers people a stronger case that they're being manipulated...

...its a rink! where we let the snow in and then close the roof!
...its a golden-autumn farmer's market!
...grassy mounds will flourish in the summer! (good luck keeping the edges crisp)
...birch trees appear for the foliage peak but disappear in the other seasons!
...its a 600' tall building perched on impossibly-spindly legs (what are they? carbon fiber?)

There's already a place where summers are warm, autumn is golden, and winters are white. Its called "outside"...I don't see how it gets better in a glass box.

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage)

The FAA stated that towers at this site cannot be taller than 407 feet.
