Assembly Square Infill and Small Developments | Somerville

There is still surface lots across the street and available space in the Assembly area. I don't think they'll start demolishing parts of the garage any time soon. Maybe we can start talking about that after the strip mall, 5 middlesex, the additional couple of parcels, and even the Circuit City/Home Depot area is built up. But that's not the foreseeable future that's far in the future. I feel like we'll have self driving cars by that time eliminating the need for parking in urban centers.

I didn't just say to do the garage retro-fit, I also showed the part of the street where theres still room in front of the garage to build. No reason why they couldn't build something there now to make the street a little bit more ped friendly, like they did already on Foley st.

You could make half of the street pretty good for the time being then later on do the garage retro fit. I think this is more pressing than some of the far away parcels seeing that this is right in the core and it affects the downtown area a lot.

This style wouldn't work in Boston, but cityplace in West Palm Beach is a good example of a newish mixed use development done well.

Why wouldn't it work in Boston? Yes, the winter would have to pause the outdoor use, but I think it would still work.

The Spanish style that works well with palm trees.

Some high quality colonial aretecture would work though.

I think having northern European style aretecture would be cool, although it wouldn't mesh with the rest of the area.

"Lucky Strike Social" in the Partners building opened last night. "The 20,000-square-foot space will feature bowling, pool tables, a patio, a luxurious private suite, food and drinks."

Its actually much larger:

"Occupying two levels, Lucky Strike Social will span 36,000 square-feet of space with the kitchen, bar and dining space on the first floor and bowling, games, floor shuffleboard, island bar and private event space on the second."

Floor shuffleboard might actually entice me to ride over from the other end of the Orange Line at least once. The table form is okay, but still not really the same thing.

Assembly Row development connectivity is better than the Seaport and Greenway for some reason.

correction - 36,000 sq feet

"Assembly Row’s first entertainment extravaganza has officially opened with Lucky Strike Social bringing games, chef-inspired food and a 60-foot island bar with craft beverages to The Row. Spanning two floors and 36,000 square-feet, LSS is home to eight bowling lanes, more than 110 games (including ping pong, pool tables, floor shuffleboard and arcade games) and over 250 prizes. Talk about a strike.
Open daily from 12PM - 2AM"

Exactly what is "chef-inspired food"?

"I'd like 'Meaningless Words & Phrases' for $500, Alex..."

Just last weekend, the daughter brought us to a shuffleboard club in a converted warehouse in the Netherlands of Brooklyn! I was thinking, shuffleboard, seriously? I might be an old goat but I don’t play shuffleboard! What a surprise, place was huge, packed with 20/30 somethings (21 and over, you get carded), great music, drinks, board games, and 10 lanes of shuffleboard!! What a blast!! I actually thought while I was there, does Boston even have anything like this? And damn, it does, and the new space at Assembly sounds even more amazing!

This is the Brooklyn space!

A much better class of people and a massive upgrade from the old GOOD TIMES

No cage basketball or volleyball courts?

From your posts, I figure you to be a drum-banging SJW... what's with this slight around "much better" vs. presumably lower classes of people?

yeah wtf? good times was fun as hell. i'm fine with stuff getting cleaned up, i don't even mind gentrification -- i'm not fully a "dirty old boston" type (not FULLY...) -- but what's wrong with a lively, active, and successful spot for people who may not be grad students or bio-chem mini millionaires to have a good time. roofers and movers deserve to have a good time, too, yknow.
