BCEC expansion | Seaport

So what are they doing here now that the building is gone? Parking in the interim?
 
I think convention centers are a terrible investment.

They did seem to make it work out in SF with the Moscone re-make, right? It did seem to make the neighborhood improve. I dunno.

Yes, the bad winter weather seems to be a serious deterrent to booking a convention in Boston.

The past 5 days, the NEA (National Education Association, or NAMBLA, for short) was at the BCEC. Something like 9,000 attendees, and every single one stood in line at Dunkin Donuts and Jimmy Johns, here on D Street. Many attendees were bused in from hotels in the Back Bay, and at day's end, they all went back. Didn't seem to be a lot of people heading out for drinks in the 02210.

I'm impressed at how well the conventions are handled. Not a lot of pressure on the "neighborhood's" infrastructure. The cabs come through very easily.

Oh, and in addition to the 9,000 attendees, two cruise ships were in port - the Celebrity Summit and the Queen Mary 2. That was kind of cool.

Wow, John, what an absolutely ignorant statement for anyone to make, never mind a real estate agent like yourself, about a well established and respected organization like the NEA.

I had no idea what NAMBLA was. Seriously WTF. John Keith does these random things from time to time...

i had no idea then i looked it up and was too embarrassed to ask what he might have meant.

i still don't get the context.... nor have the stones to ask.
 
I've also used it to describe the National Association of Realtors, ironically.

John, as a former 6th grade teacher and member of the NEA for 30 years (and I remember quite well the many people jailed during the day care hysteria of the 80's) I guess I'm pretty sensitive to equating teachers with NAMBLA! Throw in the fact that I'm pretty out of it when it comes to John Stewart (except for his politics) or lots of other things in popular culture. I used to be with it, not not so much anymore! Having said that, John, I probably wouldn't use that same comparison in any of your blogs or articles...there are many more 'out of it' teachers out there who might react like I did. Jumbo, thanks for the clarification about John Stewart, John, sorry for my over reaction.

For a fictional thing it's been in and out of the news for many years now, a quick google will do it. Maybe it is some sort of urban legend and if you have proof, it'd love to see it. Anyway, sorry for getting way off topic.

Still a bad idea. Building more hotels in the area with small meeting spaces that can be used as overflow isn't a terrible idea though. As long as the state reimburses the city of Boston appropriately for the land they transferred.
