I think we can possibly all agree this is one development/project that is a complete success.
Don't want to be too much of downer since overall, firm agree the finished bridge is a big net positive. That said….
No NB bus lane for the 111,
Unprotected, unidirectional cycle tracks next to 5 lanes of traffic at the Causeway intersection,
No lighting on the pedestrian underpass,
7 year construction duration due to spec’d welds that were physically impossible to perform,
Especially given the network context, comically inadequate pedestrian and bike ‘accommodation’ during the extended construction phase,
Etc…
In fairness, most of the above is testament to how far ‘best practice’ non-SOV mobility has progressed since these plans walked out the door in 2017. But, the only learning possible from complete successes is how to replicate. And despite this bridge being (IMO) an overall success, theres
a lot here that shouldn’t be replicated.
