In response to your first thought, I think the drama in that angle HAS been ruined. You can see to the right of the core (through the steel) just how far down you used to be able to see the Hancock. Now if we could only convince the parking garage to add a few more floors....


The "suburban wasteland" pic was taken from the northeast end of the blue hills, in Quincy (near Shea Rink). I'm not sure when it stops being a wilderness and starts being a wasteland.

Out here in what has been characterized as "West Armpit" which we tend to consider the "area somewhat Northwest of Lord Stanley's Cup" we don't allow too many of those tallish townhomes -- too urban for us
 
The "suburban wasteland" ca is referring to is archstone apartments at quarry hills next to granite links cc where the old quarries used to be in quincy
 
Random question about one of the photos way above: when did the buildings in Charles River Park start donning giant tildes?
 
^when they built the new tower they renovated the older buildings and added the wave or something to that effect. From Northeastern
