At this major entrance to the city it would be nice to have some some attractive landscaping (trees and shrubs) in the plain grass area ^.

Agreed x100000. Great opportunity to offer some impactful couterpoint to the oppressive, relentless concrete/metal of 93 and the neighboring high-rises. Could be stunning if done right.
